Sweet. I'm about a week away from starting the break in on my LRP30 spec 4. I expect the first thing to go will be the plastic 1st gear in the tranny. Probably going to buy a metal one to have on hand.
Ya I'm getting 1 of those gears too

Any Nitro :ercm: will not break in properly below 200 degrees or so.... doing so at lower temps will actually increase wear on the piston and sleeve......
Ya the instructions seem kind of silly and against everything I've been told. I've kept it at around 200 for everytank since. 160 seems really low. I've got 1 more tank left before I start tuning it. Should have that tank ran tonight

This article was written by the best engine tuner of all time ( Ron Paris ) and his knowledge is here for us all to benefit from.....
that's an exert from an older article reposted. theres another way also recommended by Ron Paris. In which he recommends idiling with the wheels off the ground as there's no load on the motor when its suspended off the ground. Google nitro break in bible. Him and others now suggest running the truck on the ground on the 1st tank and each 1 after. It makes sense, without a load on the motor it's not actually being broke in.

Where can I get the metal gears for my tranny?

Also, Id like you post about your 90° tiger drive installation when you get to it.

A guy on a facebook forumn custom makes the 1st gear. I'll post the tiger drive as soon as I get it installed. I'm stopping by my lhs today to see if tgey have it, if not I'll order it tonight but probably won't get it installed until next week. Going away for the weekend. If your interested in the metal gear let me know and I'll get you the guts info. The other poster is talking about the same guy

There is a guy on Facebook that spent about a year of R&D to get it right. He's selling them on there.

As for your starting method, I always prefer pull-starts. Roto starts don't give you much of a sense as to what the engine is doing. Is it flooded, is it mis fireing, how compression feels... Granted, break-in does suck, but after the first gallon, my engines usually pop to life after 3-4 quick pulls.

I haven't even put it on. It pull starts really nice. 2 pulls the 1st fire up of the day. Then 1 pull after that. It runs really good. The things pretty mean. I've been taking it to work. I do commercial construction so there's lots of dirt piles to eat up

View attachment 3509 View attachment 3510 View attachment 3511 View attachment 3512 Ok so here's where I'm at. I've moved the header tank to inside of the shock tower. I built a small shelf from 1 side of the frame to the other that keeps the tank from slipping down to the drive shaft. You can sort of see it in the 1st pic. There's a zip tie across the top that keeps it from going up. That's the 2nd pic but it's a cloudy pic so it's hard to see.

hello, newbie here and please forgive my silly question. what is the purpose of the header tank? another question is did you need anything else to mount that engine? like a different engine mount etc? i am about to do what you just did and i have no idea what i am doing. :)

thanks for the help.

Savages have an issue with their fuel tanks which causes them to run lean the last part of the tank do to its uneven design. A header tank solves the issue.

The motor is direct fit and it's a beast

For some reason I cannot open this link, says I don’t have permission.

With that being said, I’m the guy on Facebook that spent a year working on the steel first gear for both the three speed and two speed transmission. I have completely sold out of the 3 speed gears and have two for the 2 speed. As of now, because of a lack of sales, I have stopped making them. If I’m able to get enough interest, and people are willing to preorder them, I’ll start making them again.
Any questions, feel free to message me here or email me at [email protected]

Thanks for letting people know that someone was making the gears, the more interest in them the better chance I can keep making them.
