What did you do to your HPI Savage today?

Nuthin I went to a local crawl for a friend who lost his house in the recent fires, we raised alot of money and everyone had a great day in the sun

Did quite a bit today to my 25.

I installed new bearings in my steering rack in place of the bushings and also put on some performance rotors and pads to make this thing stop better since it’s braking performance has been mediocre at best.

I also did a few cosmetic touches to it to personalize the truck and make it look a bit cooler when running down the road! Not bad huh?

bashed in the snow at -20 celcius not a very good idea. suspension froze and got really stiff. it's still fun though.

Bought a new 16T tekno bell for it to drop down from 17/47 to 16/47 to run with my LRP30 in the spring. The engine can pull the gearing in a long straight, but I want it geared a bit better for short runs at skate parks. Will probably still reach 40mph, but it won't be in first gear as long.

Got a new steering bell crank with some tie rods I ordered for my 4.6 so I decided to give my older 25 an upgrade with the newer style servo saver! Also had an extra HD servo saver spring I threw on. Orange and purple don’t really mix but the performance upgrade is worth it. Kinda like 2 worlds colliding here lol.

Well, was going to install a 16T bell to drop down from 17/47 to 16/47, also to throw some ARO in it and clean it up since I only ran it once this year that I remember. While cleaning it, the engine mount broke/fell apart in my hands.

Guess that will teach me to do any nitro maintenance. LOL!

Hey what is your review on that lot I was thinking about getting one

To be honest, I haven't run it a lot and all I have to compare it to is the LRP28S3 it replaced. It has more low end torque than the 28. I've had pretty good luck with LRP's over the years and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I've had 4 or 5 of the 28's.

The one this 30 replaced was giving me fits. However, after getting the 30 and finding I had similar results, I figured out my fuel tank o-ring was shot and it was sucking air/leaking fuel everywhere. Once I replaced the tank, the 30 started responding how I would have expected. Odds are, the 28 I took out that only had a 1.5-2 gallons on it is 100% fine, but I never put it back in to see.

Before these, I had an LRP28 in a losi aftershock and the performance of it hands down beat the LST2 stock engine my buddies were running, the Dynamite Mach 427. I was able to pull taller gearing and still get better top speed and punch off the line.

One thing though, the LRP28 and I'm assuming 30, did not care for teh HPI polished pipe. I think it needed something a bit more restrictive or it would have a muddy tune in the middle of the RPM range. Was fine on the bottom off the range, then it would burble and burp in the middle and open up at 3/4-WOT. I run a losi LST HT pipe on it and I can get a clean sounding tune from idle to WOT once it's warmed up.

I have another LRP28 in my big block revo that I run a THS revo big block pipe on and it does pretty well too.

Last video of it if you want to see the 30 run:

From the video, you can see it wasn't shifting early enough to hit the jump well. I had the same issue in the skate park near me. Which is partly why I was taking the engine out tonight, to put a smaller cb on it so I could leverage more of the speed of second gear in most of the places I bash.

That’s a sick video! I’m just curious where you mounted your camera, head or chest? Thanks!

I have it on a lanyard around my neck and I made legs for the gopro camera cage then put silicone fuel line on it so it doesn't move around much when I'm standing/twisting while running. I've gotten in the habit of acting like batman when I run RC's. Instead of turning my head to follow the truck, I twist my entire upper body.

I have a big head and I don't wear hats. I didn't want this thing strapped to my head and look like more of an overgrown man-child than I do while out running my "toy" trucks. lol!

The camera is upside down when I wear it, but it auto-rotates so I don't have to do anything to it. I use a remote that I have velcro'd to my transmitter that blinks and shows me when it's recording.

Wow that’s awesome haha I don’t have a GoPro yet but I’d like to get one and take some videos myself, thanks for the tips! And yeah I guess wearing that thing on your head would look a bit weird... ??

Do they still make that remote? Is it reasonable?

I looked and looked. All I could find that was an equivalent was a chest harness. Felt like I was strapping in to go to the moon. Didn't help that I think it was made for an 8 year old child. I didn't care for that. I just wanted a damn adjustable lanyard to hang the stupid thing on.

I got the remote on ebay for a fraction of the retail cost. They have a newer one with a settings button. Mine is the old version. It was used and the battery isn't replaceable. Still seems to work fine for a couple hours on a charge. It has a proprietary plug to charge it though, which is a bit annoying. I only have one plug and I tend to forget it at home. I should get another to keep in my car/truck bag so I can top it off when driving from skate park to skate park like I do the camera. I have a couple extra batteries for the camera too. They get about an hour or so of run time. Last weekend, I nearly filled the MicroSD 64G card running at 3 skate parks. I should get another larger one, guessing they are cheaper now than a year or so ago.

Decided to update my 25 even further today by throwing on some X TVPs. I know it says they lower the engine a lot but when I put them side by side wow I was shocked. (Didn’t take any pics of that unfortunately)

I thought it was going to be a relatively easy job, however it turned out to be a bit harder than I thought. What they don’t tell you is the 25 motor brackets are not cut out for the lower CG chassis, so when I was putting the rear on it wouldn’t fit and I couldn’t figure out why for a little while until I noticed it. Fortunately since my other 4.6 is all IRC now I had a stock X engine plate laying around, but if not I would have been screwed and have had to order new parts.

Anyway I finally got the TVPs on and this time they fit like I thought they should have in the first place. Perfectly. I also had an old RPM X skid plate that I threw on (the main reason I replaced the TVPs I wanted to use the skid plate lol). All I had to do was sand down the outer edges since the f/r skids on the 25 are slightly different than the X.

Finally finished everything and this truck is looking great. This is not my main project but it has benefitted a lot from the hand me downs of my 4.6 ??. I’ll probably get a hex screw kit for it sometime too just because I hate dealing with philips on these trucks, but that should be it, “build” complete for my 25.

(Might eventually put the stock TVPs on again for that sexy chrome look ?)

Here are some pics

I think it lowered the transmission more than the engine. Regardless, I get much better life out of my center cups and bones with an LRP30 in my X than I did back when I had a 21 savage with an OS21RG. That thing seemed to eat through center cups on a monthly basis in the summer months.

I finished painting my christmas gift.
Ice blue paint backed with black resulted in purple rather than deep blue as was intended:oops:. But a brand new body is always nice :sneaky:.
