Looks to be ok to me. how is the spur to bell mesh ? the spur should be able to rock just a tiny bit when you hold the bell still with a finger.....

I can roll the car forward now with a bit of effort but before i couldn't but wont roll back does that seem right

the spur is the large plastic gear, and by your description it would seem the mesh is too tight likely causing some of your trouble starting and staying running.... do you have the manual for the truck??? if so sit down and read it entirely, it explains alot about your truck...

I can roll my truck back and forth with no binding at all so to adjust your mesh means you need to loosen the engine mounting bolts under the truck just slightly and slide the engine away from the spur just a touch and check the mesh again, I do mine by feel and eye, there is no easy way to do it just takes practice and feel for too loose or tight and the sweet spot just right..... should just be a slight amount of free space between both meshing gears...

You can download the manual here >>> https://www.hpiracing.com/instructions/868
some versions may be a bit different but it is all basically the same from version to version

is this a truck put together from parts and pieces from different trucks... don't be surprised if it is and some parts may be a bit different....

I got my Savage in pieces and parts and put it together to make a running rig.....

Sorry if I'm being a pain but I'm getting great help from you and i will download manual and have a good read

That pic shows the spur and bell out of alignment, they should be close to mating together a bit better than that is....
I suggest reading thru the manual I linked and doing a teardown of that whole rig to check everything is in good shape.....
That misalignment may be a simple fix or could be the result of something bent causing it.....

Not likely, the spur is on a shaft, supported by bushings, more likely culprit is a bent engine mounting plate or something causing that mislaignment

Ive had a quick look at the manual and there is no mention of adjusting engine forward or back but side to side anyway gomna look at it tomorrow after work and will keep you posted. Thanks for all your help mate getting late its midnight. Lol

Can you tell me should the spur gear turn freely because i cant move it with my finger unless i pull the pullstart.

And @francis Labarbara is correct pulling the starter should NOT spin the spur gear...
As I said earlier this rig seems to be full of problems and should be thouroughly inspected and torn down to find other things wrong before even trying to run it......

ok the spur gear will not turn freely and the brakes are always engaged so basically the guy sold me a piece of crap.

the reason car wont run freely is because the brakes are always on, now i have manually disengaged the brakes it will move forward freely but not backwards, the clutchbell spur gear do not turn when i roll the car forward. i think its a waste of time so i have opened a case on ebay for selling me faulty good lets see what happens, like i said appreciate your help

View attachment 2507from looking at the manual looks like something is missing so the brakes are off when neutral.

Is that the position it is in when powered on? Is your brake/ throttle servo centered? If it's not centered, remove the servo horn assembly and power on the truck. Let the servo center, then reinstall the servo horn assembly.

It is also possible that a setting is off on your remote, causing it to offset into that position.
