hey guys i know this is a savage forum and I'm sorry but i really need some imput here and i know you guys on this site seem to be some of the most knowledgable hobbiest! i recently picked up a losi LST and purchased a brand new dynamite big red .28 for it. broke the engine in runs great, tuned awsome, temps around 220-240 at end of tank. this truck seems to have alot of low end, not enough top end. i realize this truck is geared pretty low..but compared to my savage with the LRP 32 this engine just dosnt seem to rev out like my savage. from all the reading ive done on the internet seems that the LST comes with the HT pipie (hight torque) and it lacks top end because the header pipe is too long. does andy one have any suggestions on how to increase the top end on my LST becides doing the gear flip mod and all the fancy gearing tricks? i understand I'm going to have to trade off some of my bottom end to get more top. but thats fine because this thing has the bottom end to pull tree stumps and wheelies on demand. just not engough top end. thanks guys

I know I have said this before and opinions vary but, I have tried a couple of expensive exhaust pipes , but I tried the hpi xl pipe and header and got better results at bottom and top end, it is my favorite and only pipe I run on all my big blocks now, even for my old lrp .28 and by far the cheapest! That was my experience.

There are other gear options aside from the gear flip mod. The XXL LST uses a higher output gear set and the eLST use a higher ratio yet again. I can't speak for the eLST gears but I have a set of XXL gears waiting to go into an Aftershock tranny and they only cost $11.00. p/n. Losb3119.
My 2 lst's are both geared too low after switching from the huge diameter stock tires to Badlands and Crimefighters.

I really like the Dynamite 086 pipe, fits the stock losi header well. Seems to give me a little more top end while smoothing out the power all little.

output gear set huh? so whats factory in LST output gearing? you think that will make a huge diffrece in top end speed? also i came across a tuned pipe kit for LST made by integy its the "high power tuned pipe set" part number T7346. I'm wondering if that would be a little better than factory

I don't have any first hand knowledge, regarding the effects of the output gears. I bought the set I have when the XXL came out and never got around to swapping them. In fact I never used any of my offroad RCs from then, until now.
Switching the output gears was a fairly common mod though, once the higher gear sets became available. Too bad lstforums wasn't still around, someone on that forum could tell you more than me.

If you are running stock tires, there is no real need to gear up. The stock tires are fairly heavy and large diameter. That will up your effective gear ratio but all that rolling mass may be holding your peak rpms back.
My Lst s we're only used on a track so I never ran the stock rubber.

yes still have stock wheels and tires, and they are huge!lol i put some proline road rages i had laying around for my t maxx and wow did it lose all of my top end.lol so i supose ill do more investigation on the gears and header pipe.thanks guys

If youre still running the stock tranny with reverse, youll get educated on the tranny pretty quick. As with all rcs the reverse is a weak link.

can you honestly tell me that i will be able to tell a diffrence in top end by getting rid of my reverse and getting the FOC kit? if so ill order it asap. i need more top end in this thing. i could always put my lrp32 in lst and big red in savage. but i like having that savage so over powered lol its alot of fun

A lot less mass to turn the less gears There are
I don't think its a big red issue. Shed some weight and gears

The 32 wont be any faster than the 28. Rpms are the same. 28 may even be a bit faster on top end. Advantage 32 is the ability to turn higher gear ratio with its torque.

What i ment in the sec you quoted is that the tranny in stock form is prone to failure so you might be upgrading sooner than you planned. My ercm picco shredded the stock tranny.

So with the foc, flip and elec gears you go from 2.09 to 1. To 1.56 to 1okay..do you think the .28 i have will have any issues with the higher gear ratios? thew 454 didnt and the big red is basicly the same thing less 2 ports

the xxl pinion gears? that means id need the coresponding spur gears to match correct? also do you know the teeth number on thoes pinions? thanks alot for educating me on my LST.id like to get all i can out of it.its a great truck and so far i love it..i really think i shouldve gottn a novarossi legend 28 or lrp32 for it

so just a quick up date guys... i been doing research and found an awsome integy pipe set for the LST i got one and man oh man did it wake this engine up!! i had to richen the the carb up right away after installing the new header pipe and muffler..now its just awsome on top end and low end its an animal!! (oh..plus i noticed the servo was only opening the carb up about half way) lol i was at the park last weekend and clocked the LST at 35mph running rich but that was before the servo linkage adjustment and the new pipe. i ran one tank with the new pipe and i sheared 2 axle stubs and rounded out one rim and hex. cant belive the power!! oh..and i ordered a new losi eight 4x4 rtr buggy with the .21 dynamite engine in..should be in friday. i been wanting one ever since i got the mini 8ight.

thinking about upgrading to the losi atx420 lst2 wheels and tires with lst2 axles, carriers and 20mm hexes. that is your opinion of thoes atx420 tires over the claw tires on mine? less rolling resistance? easier on axles and drivetrain parts? better top end speed? even decent on pavement? not as squishy on top end? thanks guys

Wow sounds like your going to be investing in losi new, lol, when you get everything tip top, post a vid! Love to see it in action!

That is a nice pipe, ! The polished parts on the truck are very brite, a little dirt and grime should tone that down! Lol
