Well here we go. I'm re-tooling in some pretty major areas:

-Engine
-Pipe
-Wheels/Tires
-Clutch/Shoes
-Shocks

I am getting a new mill first, and was wondering if anyone has had experience with both of these engines.

If I had the extra $100 to spend on the RB, is it worth it? Is it really that much better or more powerful? I can't seem to find HP specs on the RB (but R/C HP specs are usually over rated anyway) The LRP claims 3.81 HP. Don't know about the RB.

My guess is probably similar performance when geared equally, but more reliability and better tuning stability on the RB. Perhaps due to tighter tolerances? Maybe that's why it's so much more.

I just want to be able to have enough power on tap to get the wheels up no problem and rip roosts at 30 MPH. Is that not what the Savage is all about!??!

Haven't decided on the engine yet, but the final setup is going to be running CEN Genesis wheels/Tires, HPI Big Bores, a steel clutch bell/aluminum shoes and a BUKU pipe with 14/50 gearing (low at first because of the tall-heavy tires and extended chassis). I'm going mostly for torque because once the second speed kicks in it'll be plenty fast enough. Those tires are 7.5 inches tall too. That's probably about like running a 16 or 17 pinion with stock or similar wheels.

What ya think? Either powerplant would do, just wondering. The setup should be sick either way.

...Who all has tried that BUKU by the way??? Good stuff?

The RB is going to outlast the LRP by a long shot due to materials. The LRP may actually tune easier but will not make the power of the RB as well. The LRP will be more of a amature motor meaning easy to tune and holding tunes well and still makes good power but nothing like the RB which is a performance race motor. The Picco P3 is also a motor more to the class of the RB but has a nice price range of around $200.

For the price pico p3 if you do an rb928 do it quick they are discontinued.

bashin', you've got some exciting upgrades planned there bro... you mentioned the buku & also a Picco .28 & am planning a Picco .28 for my savage/hellfire after the holidays.
.
ive asked many questions about the picco to the experienced guys here (some of the modders too) and they say great things about matchin' the picco to the dynamite 086 pipe --> http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/9007 & using a turbo plug also.
.
might be worth your while to ask around a bit more about the picco & other pipes & stuff........from what i understand, the picco .28 is a mill that is very commonly modded so it gives you another option down the road.

cool, thanks for the info. that pipe is about half the price, so that's good too. i just like the idea of being tuned through the entire RPM range. essentially having an infinite powerband.

if anyone reading has some more input that would be sweet! i still haven't heard much either way about the BUKU. how about a few real world opinions guys? anyone actually have it?

There is a review of the BUKU in the review section and there are about hmm15 guys running it. I run a BUKU on my Modded 928 and have another truck here with it on a novarossi .21.

alot of people here are running the buku actually and i've only heard impressive things about it.. aparently the power gains are huge when tuned properly.....and with the buku you can set it up for whatever your in the mood for, if ya want to be rippin wheelies you can tune it for the low end power or go the other way and get impressive top end
