Well, I'm a huge sports nut...so even though I don't care so much for the NFL, I am surrounded by it because the rest of the country is obsessed...so here goes...
Number 1) I want the Patriots to lose. Not because I dislike them, but because I am just sick of hearing about how great they are. I think they are undoubtedly the best team, but they are not unstoppable. There are teams out there with a great shot to beat them, especially when the weather gets rough.
Number 2) Tom Brady is overrated. I know, I know, I know, I sound like a crazy hater. But I have watched an awful lot of Tom Brady this year, and I can honestly say, he is not the best quarterback in the league. Statistically, yes, he is dominating, having the best season in history. The fact remains, there are still throws that Peyton Manning makes that Tom Brady can only dream about. Brady is on a dominant offense that makes him look better than he really is. He doesn't throw interceptions because he never has to throw to anyone who is covered. Did anyone else see him go to Welker 5 plays in a row against the Steelers and not have the defense make a play on the ball a single time? I have to give Brady props, because he does a GREAT job at finding the open man. But he is lucky in that there is ALWAYS an open man to find. I honestly think that Manning is both smarter and more physically gifted. He just doesn't have the advantage of the dominant offense that Brady does. With Brady's tools, Manning would put up better numbers. Not by a ton, but watching them both tells me that Manning really is just better and Brady, as good as he is (clearly #2 in my book), is really a product of his team.
Number 3) Adrian Peterson is sick. I don't want to toot my own horn, but in discussions with my roommate at this time last year, I was pointing out that Adrian Peterson was destined to be a great NFL back. I loved his running style in college and I felt like it would transition well to the NFL. What I did not see coming is just how fast this guy really is. His breakaway speed is not even fair.
Number 4) Farve is actually spelled F-A-V-R-E 🙂 What a great season, it's nice to see someone who actually appreciates his place in the NFL. You can tell the guy wakes up every day excited that he gets to play football. I wish there were more guys like that. I am happy to see that he actually has some game around him this season and that he is still proving he is one of the best in the game.
Number 5) We have no idea how good Tony Romo really is. He has looked absolutely spectacular at times this season. But as we saw this weekend, he is still human. I'll be anxious to see how he develops as his career progresses. I honestly expected him to be mediocre at best this season. He started hot last year, then faded down the stretch. I guessed maybe he had been figured out, and I fully expected a 'sophomore slump'. But I was wrong, he's had a great year, a Pro-Bowler for sure. However, it still remains to be seen whether he is a 1 Season Wonder or a truly great QB.
Super Bowl Prediction: Indianapolis Colts - 31, Green Bay Packers - 34 (more wishful thinking than logic, I admit).
