New to this place , 30 years of addiction to this great hobby ,, i own a savage 4.6 , and I’m planning to get the 5.9 edition , I see a lot of deep concerns on this rig , and I’ll be addressing those right out of the box , I’m just having some troubles tracking some of this stuff down , hard diffs , hard tranny gears , hard spur gears , 21t pinion , servos , carb linkege kit and this upgrade carburetor I saw , these are the things I’m looking at , the truck isn’t available for a couple months that’s what the rec guys told me today , anyways I’ll do a build deal on here and any input is very appreciated 👍

were bouts you live pal ? N which 4.6 you got ? The good savage upgrades FLM gears all in USA throttle n brake upgrade easy to sort fasttrax throttle kit £5 n a bicycle spoke does the trick

Thanks so much , I’ve got the new release 4.6 , won’t shift at all , I’m bustn in to fix this thing soonly

Won’t shift ? Or stuck in second ? Sum
Good vids on YouTube fo that prob try screw it all way in so it’s locked in 1st gear then back out full 4 turns you should b good then if ya happy locktite it in disired position coz the screw n spring can vibrate out n damage gearbox

Welcome back to the world of Savage my friend plenty of info/help on here just ask! 👍🏻

The Savage is a great rig, with some really neat features. I love the stance and stamp of it. It's purposeful.

I really enjoy the 3 speed - adds that element that I always felt was missing in my other rigs.

The little centrifugal pawls sometimes get gacked up and don't engage properly. If you keep it clean and use nothing more than a dry lube, you can carefully inspect the assembly of the rest of the gears.

I took mine apart and upgraded the gears for the high speed set. Well worth the effort! Rig didn't disappoint with a 47 mph run on 18/47! 👌🤩

I wish I could spend more time driving it. 21 years I've had it. 🤩 Never gets old. Ditto for it's stable mate, the Baja 5B SS which is 16 years old.

2 of the cars that have delivered the most fun per £ than anything I've owned over the years. Kudos to HPI - let's hope they stick around!

Good luck with your gears! 👍

Thanx much guys !! What gears are required to replace these pathetic plastic stock gears , part # ? And where do I get them again ? I’m going with a perfect pass monster servo and I got some new to me ,,,, loose tires n wheels for it , when I search for these gears it always comes up with the ones for the flux model , I believe there not the same ??

Well ,,, that tears it ,,,😡😡🤬🤬 I don’t know why but went to run it today and the clutch shoes designated, lottery , makes no science , tranny and everything roll just fine I ordered bearings clutch bell and shoes , see what exposes next my clutch troubles might be why I’m not shifting so ,,, interesting stuff ,, by the time I get the 5.9 I’ll have these things figgerrd

wo it doin wheelies ? N you say it’s not shifting ? Maybe it’s stuck in second ? Good chance clutch holder tension screws backed out n cum loose 5 minit job to sort on new version gearbox

I’ve had n my gearbox apart ten times , shimmed and bearings replaced , I’ve adjusted the clutch screw in ten different settings , I just am not seeing the problem here , maybe the motor clutch was my problem all along , I shall see ,, thanx !!

Hope you get it sorts n remember on lots of the new versions have a silent shiftpoint I’ve just put aluminum fasttrax cluchshoes on mine fo now cheap fix coz not rateing the new Hpi stuff at all gun get the dynamite Maxlife shoes nxt

Have you got the instruction manual for the Savage? If not you can download from HPI website. Very handy for exploded views and stock settings.

I have the manual , waiting on parts so the story can continue , I gotta get this figgered before the 5.9 is available !!🥴🥴

The spur gear clutch is a pain. It would be great if there was a delete option for it rather than just over tightening it.
Just tighten it up all the way if you would prefer a more direct drive. I suppose the idea behind it was to reduce loads through the more delicate parts of the transmission.

I’ve been from end to end on this tranny ten times ,, I’m to the point of throwing it up in the air and shooting it ,,,,, IT DOESNT WORK !!! I’ll be calling hobby rec, today and do some complaining , see if anybody cares , they have been great so far , it this is pure crap !!

Show us pictures of your transmission. We have no idea at this stage what you're complaining about.

JEEEEEZE !!!! IT WONT SHIFT , I’ve been end to end on screw adjustments , does not shift never has , replaced the clutch, the shifter clutch works just fine but doesn’t shift still , I’ll be calling g hobby rec today , maybe just order another tranny , there cheap,,,,,,,, inside n out 😂😂

Nice though they are, these pictures don't help us any. Perhaps take pictures of the transmission in your actual Savage.

Simple pawl system - there aren't many things that can be wrong. Something might be backwards.

Go through the assembly instructions for some clues and compare them with what you actually have before you.

The clutch holder cud b on backwards ? From factory or its new versions wi silent shift ? Take it off n press tension paw n c if it catches second wi the cluster actually in ya hand them clutch holders can b fitted backwards

Yes I thought of that , I’ve got everything as the manual shows , I did work the paw it’s fine , pretty simple stuff , that’s the thing , just don’t see anything wrong with it, I’m recovering from surgery then I’ll get back to it , thanx so much for your responses really appreciate it guys

Ok good luck i add same probs masen wi new savage so screwed it all way in backed out 4 full turns checked tension on paw after removing from shaft totally n wo all gud put it back on ha went from bin stuck in 2nd to now stuck in first cudnt get ma head around it ? lol stripped it again I’d put clutch holder back on wrong way spun it back round perfect bit o locktite no more probs real silent shift tho can only hear on less than full throttle like horatio said it gotta b summat ? Is it slowe ? Wheelies ?

Well ,,, after working on it several times , decided to look elsewhere for my screw ups , found one !! Dam slipper clutch was loose , it’s been spinning almost freely at high rpm , pad was decimated basically, ordered some , I believe I’ve found my point of ignorance , pretty sure that’s it , waiting on new pads for CRAP !!! Sakes !!
