Hey everyone, I'm new, and I've gotten a lot of great info from this site so far, so I would like to pass along what I thought was an awesome tip. I was referred to it on another forum, though I cannot find the link right now to give credit. I saw a few pictures with trucks propped on tupperware bins and such, and I think this will be a really affordable but quality solution. I am sorry if this tip has been posted here before, but I cannot find it anywhere on here, so I thought I'd post it.

Also, the $8 is for the PVC pieces only. I already owned the other tools. The cutter was about $10 and completely worth it in my opinion.

Source- http://www.westcoastelite.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=417

Materials:
Ruler/Tape Measure (should own one of these already)
Hammer (should own one of these already)
Sharpie (you better own one of these already)
1/2" PVC pipe (approx. 8' - I had to buy two 5' pieces, @ $1.47 each)
PVC Pipe Cutter (most things will cut PVC pipe, but if you've ever used one of these cutters you will never want to use anything else, cost $9.99)
12 x Threadless 1/2" PVC T Couplings ($0.23 each)
4 x Threadless 1/2" PVC Elbow Couplings ($0.23 each)
4 x Threadless 1/2" PVC Inside Caps ($0.47 each)

Total Cost w/o cutter: $8.50!

Using your pipe cutter, cut the PVC into the following:
4 x 8"
4 x 4"
4 x 3 1/4"
8 x 1 1/2"

Picture of the materials (curious cat encouraged but not required)

Assemble the base in the following manner (Assemble loosely first, then use the hammer to pound the pieces in tight. Do not hammer in at first if you plan to glue later):

Next add the 1 1/2" uprights:

Add the long (8") crossbars next, with 1 1/2" uprights:
IMG_0815Edit.jpg

Add the short (3 1/4") crossbars, which the truck will rest on. Insert the caps:

Place your Savage on top and enjoy the $80 you saved by not buying some fancy-pants stand!

Some people recommend gluing the pieces together, but I found the tolerances on my pieces to be snug enough that just pounding them in was sufficient.

I hope this tip is in the right place and not out of line. Hopefully this will help some of you out!

great post!!! i've seen people with that kind of stand but thats a step by step on how to do it so i think it will interest alot of people!! and I'm not a moderator but I'm pretty sure its in the right place as it is a tool more or less!!

You would be doing well to be out of line on this forum. I think here that would more likely be a $30 stand. I remember my dad complainig once about the cost of PVC after I nicked all his. Other thing I learnt at the same time was be real careful when using the PVC glue. It sets insanely fast and you will never get it apart.

Thanks for posting I have seen these around but haven't seen a step by step, and with the exact sizes and parts needed. thanks I gave you some rep...

Where is the beginning of this thread? It looks like there are messages missing from the beginning.

Yeah, SJ was having problems with this post before...

Welcome yeah yeah. Great post. Hopefully your first of many. Great detailed pics too.

Nice, do your best to find who made the tutorial so we can give him credit. I'm adding it to the how to list now. On a side note I used a high quality epoxy to secure all the pipes to their respected joints. Works great and I can run my truck on the stand without it rattling apart.

Ok, so hopefully this post takes effect immediately, without the delay that my posts usually face for some reason, but either way, as long as it makes it up there in the end it's fine.

I need to give credit for this idea: It was passed to me by c2s on the radiocontrolzone forums here: http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=243552

He gave me the link to the original post on the West Coast Elite forums by Viper, which can be found here: http://www.westcoastelite.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=417

I thought the pictures and steps could be a bit clearer (and I had lost that link at the time), so I made my own. But this idea was not a YeahYeah original, so credit goes to those two guys.

I will eventually put credit in the original post. However, when I edited it a bit yesterday, it caused it to go down for a while, which then led to other problems. So for now, credit goes here!

Very good yeahyeah. As far as the post delay, thats because you only have 7 posts. It's a safety feature so we can preview your first 15 or so posts to make sure new members are legit and aren't spammers. Of course we know your not a spammer. The delay should definitely go away after 20 posts, probably less.

don't know why its crooked but I like it, I think its because I used a handsaw and the cuts wasn't the best.

Here is some rep!

HPI_Savage25 what kind of paint did you use on the stand?

EDIT: Paint used was ColorPlace Interior/Exterior Fast Dry spraypaint, comes in a blue can with red lid, lol.

Couldn't find an exact color code or anything

I might go price some pvc pipe and possibly make 2 of these for my savages for when they are sitting on the shelf. PVC tends to be expensive but I don't have enough old wheels to use as stands for all my cars.

MT if PVC is expensive where you are maybe go onto lowes.com, or search the internet and have it shipped. I got mine at lowes and for the PVC materials it was under $8. If you are going to make 2, three 5 footers of the 1/2 inch should do you, as I have a good 4 feet left from just making one stand.
