Trying to source either a rota start or new pull start for a axial 32 engine.

Flicking through other forums somebody said that a 4.6 pull start should fit right on, but it doesn’t as I had a rota start for one and it doesn’t push up tight into the engine.

Just wondered if anybody could shed some light on the situation or point me in the right direction before I throw the engine away! Getting frustrating. I’ve never used a engine Where the starter doesn’t use a one way bearing and the axial is a solid hex on the crank.
Also engine seems too tight even when it’s not flooded in comparison to a 4.6 I have.

thanks

The one way bearing is inside behind the engine backplate. The k4.6 pull start or roto should fit, how much is it away from the backplate? If you remove the starter shaft then will the pull start sit flush?

Aliexpress has the axial 32 pull start.

If it's a new engine then it's the pinch between the piston and sleeve at top dead centre. Best to heat up engine to over 150F and loosen glow plug by quarter turn.

I think I’ve just managed to possibly salvage my old pull start??.
I think the one I may of tried on there wasn’t for the 4.6 engine thinking about it as my 4.6 has never had the pull start taken off so I wouldn’t of had another laying around.
So I’ll have to try that next if I can’t salvage my pull start I’ve got at the moment.

also yes although the engine was brought as use I don’t think it has even been ran in so would explain this.
so heat engine as in run the engine or heat it with a heat gun or something? Then undo the plug.
Sorry not familiar with this but willing to try it ?

Use a hot air gun, a hair dryer doesnt really get that hot, and heat all way round the engine for at least 5 mins. Try starting, make sure to prime so fuel has just got into carb through fuel lines (quick way is to remove pressure line from pipe and blow down), make sure glow starter is fully charged and glow plug is glowing (remove glow plug and place in glow starter and glow wire should glow really bright). If you can crank the engine without excessive force then no need to loosen glow plug. Perhaps best to check carb needle settings are close to stock if you find it wont start.

Okay I’ll have to
Order a new pull start now as one I took the one off my 4.6 but the hex was a completely different size so would not work, will have to try source a genuine axial one unless there is any others that fit

Ordered a 12mm pull start which fitted on but then found out that the shaft must be smaller than 12mm as it just spins loosely. So guessing it’s a 10mm hex of which I can’t even find a pull start with one of them

k4.6 uses a 11mm hex...https://www.trainz.com/products/hpi-racing-15234-starting-shaft-nitro-star-k4-6?variant=31312679494
Ah right okay, reason I was getting confused is because I have a 4.6 but the older one, the newer ones have the 11mm hex then. Seem like rocking horse Sh*t to get hold of, and pretty expensive compared to normal ones, managed to pack mine out for now just to get it going until I order a proper one
