This is just a warning to all. Joe got a new picco .28 and went to break it in today. After a little over a tank the pull start broke he brought it over here for me to take a look at and this is what I found.

Spring on the pullstart is broken.
Owb was seized up. ( this was most likely the cause for the broken pullstart)
scrapes on the sleve like it had been filled
A Hugh chunk of the block gouged out at the bottom edge of where the back plate goes in right next to the back of the crank

and the cause of the owb issue and scratchs on the sleeve a bunch of metel shavings. A peice had found it's way into the owb and locked it up.

Moral of this story always take apart and inspect a new motor.

Now this is not joe's fault he didn't know to do it. I was going to do it for him but his other motor lost the msn so that pushed up the break in of the picco.

Talk abot a crappy christmas present 2 broke motors in one day and i just need the stupid needle to run the 4.6 all the good stuff I heard about picco I figured what the heck and I will tell you guys if it wsen't for bad luck I wouldn't have any as it is I'm home with a broken foot now can't even run my truck o well merry christmas

Have you got some pictures? I am curious to see. Sounds like a lemon for sure, must have been some pretty tight pulling to gouge the chrome and lock the one-way. Always a good idea to at least pull the back-plate and do a visual inspection, warranty can be hard to claim once it's been run. Depending on the damage it may be fine, I have seen one eat dirt twice and it still had pinch and ran like a champ.

Yep put that back how you found it. don't clean it out.... Go to OFNA .com Print and fill out the warranty sheet and send it in to them.

I didn't take pics sorry. If he brings it back over I will.

It still has good compression but has almost no pinch left. I got the owb unstuck. If worse comes to worse I can fix the pull start and clean the motor. The scratches didn't go through the Crome so it should be okay for a few gallons once cleaned

He is not he is going to call on Monday and send it back I was just saying worse case they won't replace it I think it can be still run for a while

He needs to get and fill out the paper work from OFNA .com thats all they will tell him when he calls.....

just got a printer for christmas so i am printing out the form now and will be sending back never did anything but let it idol bad luck I tell you the next one will be inspected first

wow sorry to hear about that, but i guess no matter what brand of engine you buy theres a possibility of defects or a "lemon" so to speak I'm with everyone send it back and TELL them you want a new one as it was by no means your fault!!!

Yep, I have heard of engines 3X more expensive having shavings in them, if you have ever used a metal lathe you can understand how hard it is to get every little piece of debris out, especially when mass produced.
