Need help tuning XL. I have been back to stock settings 4 times. This afternoon going buy the book tuning just the high speed needle, it started to make good power, no wheelies a lot of smoke through 1 tank. Temps around 225 filled up while still running, made 2 more adjustments in 1 hour increments and idle went crazy, temps shot up to 285 making ping ping noise at idle. This is with 3/4 tank. Not to sure about this 3 needle carb. I have run about 3/4 tank breaking in. I'm lost, NEED HELP!!!

mine wouldn't hold a steady tune till a full gallon ran thru it. This big block was by far the most stubborn break-in i've ever had, my entire first gallon was just playing with the hsn. After that got consistent i moved over to tiny increments with the lsn and wow!! I'm alot happier now!!

my X 4.6 acted kind of like the cuz's; it was a completely different animal after i got 6-8 tanks through it. i/d/k if the xl has the same awful fuel tank as the x causing the 1/2 tank lean, but i had a similar frustrating problem (couldn't tune at all) & then began only filling the tank 1/2 way to tune. may be worth a try 4 you

Just off break in my 5.9 gave me no tuning issues at all. Held a tune just fine but a ran it with a mid tank set up. The ping ping at idle is a sound you heard I have only heard on a lean mill. Check the mid needle as Joey suggested and start over. from the stock setting the first HSN turn can be a full one but after that you cant make hour adjustments.

I know how bank feels about this, but seal that mid range needle once you get it set. This will prevent that needle from self adjusting itself.

No you don't Allan ... take a center punch and put a divot in between the last two threads too(<--- agreeing with Allan Q)... Problem solved

I only posted this because this is what HPI is doing if you send it to them. I would never do this to my mill <--- for all the ribbing I just got in the shout box lol...
