I am trying to run the first tank of fuel through my new Xl, I can get it started using the roto start but I am having to hold the throttle open manually with my hand to keep it running.

Has anyone got any suggestions as on the dvd the guy just set it to half throttle and it stayed there.

Raise the idle a little. You might have to lean the HSN a little also but raise the idle first.

And wrap the cooling head with aluminum foil and heat it with a hair dryer to 180F before you start it.

maybe try turning the throttle trim up a bit on the radio as well to increase the revs then after its running for 5-10 seconds return the trim to the center "straight up" i do this when starting......

been keeping an eye on this thread to hear how u made out buddy, you will have to let us know how your liking the xl

Thanks for all your help, the XL is up and running now and I am amazed how fast this thing is..

I went through all the tuning and found I did not need any adjustment from factory setting on the low speed needle for best performance is this normal.

Also the only problem I now have is that its stalls occasionally on heavy braking.

I also found that a small adjustment on the idle and raising the throttle trim ensures it starts easily every time.

sounds like you need to tweak up your idle a bit more to keep the mill from stalling at full brake

just a side note, i had a lot of trouble with my mid range needle wanting to work its self loose, just a dap of rtv fixed it right up, so u may want to keep a eye on that, also, i never was a fan of the alumfoil on the head, got a old sweat band, the type for your wrist, they work wonders , keeps your head temp up, and it looks pretty cool also. peace
