hi all.
iv had my savage for about 2 years and since I was new to nitro motors it had a horrible break in + it got broken in a Canadian winter. at the time I didn’t know about using a hair dryer or anything so the only way I could get it to start was to turn up the idle screw and swear a lot. however 2 years later I'm pretty good at tuning them now. they run quick off the line and have a very good top end with no sputtering or stalling. i beat everyone of my freinds in a race and lots of cars to. but it moves by its self with out given it gas. now I know that normally means the idle screw is to high but it revs pretty much at the same rpm at idle as everyone else’s. but I do have it lean out quite a bit both on the low speed and high speed. but it runs great. iv checked the plug and it’s good. so any tips would be nice cuz my breaks really suck. lol

^^^ that is wicked funny! like you mentioned, i say turn your idle down a bit at the mill & use your trim to adjust it higher/lower as needed.

LOL, ya I'd say richen it up a tad then back the idle back down so it will stay put. Like Back said check fuel lines for leaks and you may also want to seal up the mill. I assume its the original .21 or the S.25.

now thats funny, when i first got my xl last november, it took me three days to get it started, my wife called it the $600 p.o.s, boy did i catch some lip, anyway for the next week, it seemed the only way it would start is if i cursed it for the first 5 min. wam worked every time. (boy that was a long month). BTW welcome to the fourm...

thx everyone but its the clutch iv got the motor out and I'm done for the day so ill get back to it 1st thing after work tmrw

That was my guess if you said the idle was the same as everyone else. Glad you got it figured out. What clutch you looking at to replace it?

I'm not to sure yet. i may only have to replace the cb or maybe some spings i don't know. Y what would ya recomend?

Well if your shoes are fine I would replace the springs with some .9 or 1.0s. If you need new shoes it depends on what you run. Are you running alloy or carbon shoes? If you run alloy get some Nova shoes. they are very tough and last longer than other brands of alloy shoes I have ran.

well the shoes are ok but i need new springs and the base plate of the clutch, the circle wit 3 posts that the shoes go on, 1 of the 3 posts broke right off :O

wow then yes definately you need a new flywheel then if one post is broke!!

Yep, replace the springs and flywheel and you will be back on the road. Let us know how it turns out for you.

I went to my local hobby shop and priced out the aluminum shoes and there 36$ b4 tax :O

LHS will charge you a ton of money for aluminum shoes. At that price I almost bet they were the HPI purple aluminum shoes. Ebay or the internet are the best place to get aluminum shoes. These are great clutches and much cheaper...

There are other good clutches out there also and I am sure others will post their recommendations. Good luck.
