ok well it started yesterday i went to use my rotostart to start my truck and it just spins freely. so i pull my motor out, pull the backplate off check my bearing and it looks good but when i take the crank shaft thats sticking out, and turn it sounds like somethings loose or broken

ok so i pulled the cover plate off, pulled out the starting shaft, checked everything looks good of course my starting pin popped out put everything back together and still when i turn the starting shaft it just spins. pressure spring screwed?

Did you make sure the bearing only turns one way? Do you hear anything while turning the motor over? Take a look at my picture.. The spring should be pushing that small pin into the starter shaft. If you rotate the motor backwards with the flywheel, you should hear it click.

Now, if that seems alright, make sure that bearing only spins freely one way. They are a common problem, and when they let go, they either lock up, or spin freely either way. You can try cleaning the one way bearing with some denatured alcohol. If it spins both ways, or is locked you need a new one.

Does it spin both ways? If so, clean it with some denatured alcohol, and if it still does, it's time for a new one. They are designed to freely spin one way, and lock in the other direction. This allows the starter assembly to rotate freely so the motor isn't pulling it along, but also allows you to start the engine. If it is slipping, it usually means it's shot, but a cleaning might help it.
