I have a line on a new STS .28 for $90 just wondering if any of you have run this motor is it any good? And also is $90 a good price. Seems like a deal to me but I don't know anything about this motor.

STS engines have their issues. But for $90 for a new one, I say give it a go.

from what i read, hit or miss with this motor.
either a turd or a killer engine, but for $90 worth a shot.

I have ran a STS .28 before.

I personally had good luck with it....somewhat. Break-in was long (1gallon+) and then it crapped out at 6 gallons with the last gallon of use being just a royal pain until I finally gave up on it and found out that it was pretty much shot (bad bearings, and slop in rod). If you have any tuning experience you should be ok but it's not as easy to tune as others. Power wise was an upgrade compared to my S-25 also. For $90 would I buy another one? No....but if you want one and feel comfortable with it then go ahead. I just don't have the financial abilities to toss out $90 and it not last a few months.....

I have an STS 28. Bearings crapped out at around 1 1/2 gal. Like everybody said, it's hit and miss with these motors. I will admit though, they are tough. I tried runnin (dare to admit it) Traxxas 33% nitro fuel trough it (highest I could get and didn't want to waste my good stuff) and leaned out as far as possible to try and blow the motor up. Temps never went past 285* or around that. Basically, never went over 300*. It ran like crap but fast extremely quick and jumpy.

My buddy who is not a member here has one. It's still at less than a gallon so its still a bit tight but it runs like a scalded dog! The only complaint I have about his, is its running good at 300 but you turn the hsn out 1/8 turn its so rich it wont shift...its that touchy!

not sure the price anymore of that mill new but my .30 had tons of pwer but its very hard to tune.it lasted about 2 gallons but i put it in my buggy doin top speed runs which tore up the p/s so i would give it a run if your up for a new mill. parts are also hard to come by rcmall on ebay is the only place i can find them (japan) 2 week turn around.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have no issues tunning heck the few people i run with always want me to tune thier mills for them. but being it is hit or miss I think I will pass don't really have $90 just to waste if it dosnt last. I have 6 gal on my f4.6 and I have not had an issue yet. just figured its got to be getting close to going soon. I might just use the hpi motor exchange program. Thanks again everyone
