hey guys. I'm in the middle of my savage XL project and it is now time to pick out a engine. I sold the stock 5.9 on ebay and did not really get what i was hoping so ill have to stick with a STS engine because of price for now. From people who have run this engine. would you recommend the .28 or.30? i have read good things and bad about STS. since i have alot of experience with nitro engines ill take the chance.

Go with an axial if you are low on funds. STS was the worst motor I've ran. Long breakin, SHORT life. Mine never ran good. Internal owb also sucked. I got 6 gallons out of mine, +ne being breakin, and 1 being just trying to get it to run right before I junked it.

ya i was going to buy a sts engine and a pro engine modder said not to waste my time on sts..and i trust his knowledge 100% as was said if your going cheap axial is a ok choice or look at the sh engines the sh m28 p9 engine is the exact twin to the LRP 28 spec 3 but cheaper.. and the lrp rips...and for me i would take a 28 engine over a 30 any day of the week..

thanks hyp!! i should have mentioned that one to, as the f4.6 is a better engine then the k4.6 in my opinion

I second that. I also had a STS 28 and it only lasted about 2 gals. Now it's just a paper weight. Like HPI said, if your low on funds, get an Axial. That's what I'm runnin now (low on funds too, then had it modded) and almost 3 gals later, it's still runnin strong and great compression.

not to go against what you all have told me , but i went with a STS.28. I was not asking what other cheap engines to get. I have owned the ones you mentioned. i asked if the sts .28 or .30 would be better because i never owned a STS and wanted to try it for 99 bucks. I have owned over 50 engines over the years and i have learned that if broken in right and taken care of any engine will last. out of 10 STS engines 5 ppl say that it sucks. out of those 5 maybe 1 or 2 were bad engines. the others were broken in wrong, ran with dirty filters, ran super lean to keep up with someone with a picco ect.... I'm not being a **** just stating a real statement. I plan to have 3 engines to rotate out. So far i got a AE .28 that comes with the RC8 RTR that has 5 tanks of break-in on it, the STS that i just ordered and i hope to get the picco p3 once funds are there. i would like to have them all fitted with clutch systems and engine mounts so they will be drop in ready.
