is the head the part that has the threads?the cooling head and would you live in fear of the small sliver of metal that may or maynot be in the engine?

You must replace the stripped part, if you can replace the button but I think it's a one piece unit. It will splinter over and over until in won't work. Been there before. Make sure to keep the head free of grime when putting it in and out.

thx x , whats the button? i have a head in the basement but there seems to be no threads in the bottom could this be because it for a differnt mill?

I don't know how it works but my LHS carries a retapping tool just for glo plugs.....

haven't picked one up and haven't needed it.

not worth retapping willl cause more issues you have to buy the headbutton for that model look up the part # in you engines part listing.the head button is aaslo the compression dome so just get a new one
