well i was trying to seal my engine/carb.
i keep chasing the tune and are sick of it.
so anyways, the hex bolts on the crank case is striped.
what can i do about them?
i can pull two of them, the other two will not pull. not sure what to do.
i can go and get a dremal and see if i can cut a line to see if i can pull them that way.

but as you know they are in set in the crank case cover, so not even sure if i can get a cut wheel into it.

but wondering what do about it now.

Go to your local hardware store and pick up a easy out screw extractor for that size cap screw. If that doesn't get it, I have drilled the head off and pulled the backplate off and then was able to get a pair of vice grips on the remaining exposed screw and twist it out.

Just a question what do you mean about chasing your tune around? I'm against sealing a mill with anything but O'rings but that's your decision and I won't comment further on that. As for the stripped screws try a screw out extractor or grind down the grinding wheel till its small enough to not hit the case. Small cuts in it wont hurt it. Just don't seal the mill for a mid tank lean issue. It wont help...

ya ive read that the mid tank lean is just a crappy stock tank setup.
i dunno, i just haven't seemed to have a consistent tune on it.
ive watched the tuning guide a few times and will keep at it.
i have a temp gun now so that should really help.
i thought id try the seal and see if helps keep a consistent temp.

now i just have to figure out how to keep spurs longer.

cblock, just an obvious question, but are you still running your stock tank?
.
ps, if you have a sears hardware close by, you should be able to get an easy out small enough. also, you could get a very small drill bit & drill the center of the bolt, which would heat up the bolt to loosen it before you go after it with the easy out.

Hey cblock, first let us know when you resolve the stripped bolts & maybe add a photo of how you did it so we can benefit from you experience.
.
after you resolve it , you may want to read through the mid tank mods. Only saying because my sav x is only 3 months old & needs to retune every single time i run it. came to the point where i only fill it 1/2 tank which worked a little, but now it is ripped apart & in the middle of a mid tank mod. the stock tank is a bad "shelf" design & the fact that 1/2 of the tank is mounted lower than the fuel intake to the carburator causes more air & less fuel mix when you get to 1/2 tank. very frustrating but easy to fix & it is prob what started your stripped bolt situation in the 1st place. hope you get up & running fassst man.

thanks guys, ya I'm sure ill be up and running shortly.
the only reason i was going to pull those bolts was to seal up the crank case.
but i sealed the carby so we will see how its gonna run now.

plus i striped another spur so i had to pull everything anyways.
starting to buy those things by twos lately.
