Hey, guys new member here. I've got a used Savage SS that I put a 4.6 (out of a Hellfire) into. Long story short, it took me awhile to get this thing running (cracked the motor plate after it wheelied with the body off while tuning... fixed... found out it had the wrong glow plug in it, OS instead of MC, they were too short, truck kept stalling). Anyway, finally got it running and tuned in at my buddies track and after a brief runaway (I have no idea, charged the reciever pack the night before) and it was running good. Lot's of power. But then my buddy told me to shut it down, cuz the clutch shoes were probably fried. I was getting aggrevated.
Then I noticed that the adjusting locknut on the spur gear was way loose from where I had set it (had to change the spur gear after the truck wheelied and smacked the motor/broken plate), so I figured maybe it was set too loose (even though I did everything in the manual). So I tightened it. After running less than a minute, it loosened up again. So this time I tightened it all the way down without backing off the half turn. Shortly after, I heard a *tink*tink*tink and saw the the clutch bell ate a canyon into the spur gear teeth.
Well I know tightening the thing all the way down probably wasn't the "best" idea, but why did my locknut keep loosening up? Nut stripped? Anyone else have this problem? Is it possible the gear mesh was too tight? I did the paper trick (but I didn't know about folding it over). What would you say I did wrong?
