Well I just got done building my x ss, and love it and want to take care of it and have it last for a good while to come so anyways I was wondering if I should look into sealing the engine. What are the advantages of doing this, if there is any.

I can't say exactly, as I have never done it. it supposedly makes ur engine easier to tune and it prevents air leaks( better running engine) I never have done it simply because I haven't taken the time to do it. I have been foucused on other aspects of the truck

You should definitely seal it with gasket maker. There are lots of threads about how to do it on this site. Yes it will seal the engine completely. If your engine has an air leak it will give you lots of trouble. Its best to just do it and then you can focus on tuning and runnng your engine. It would be a frustrating day to not be able to get your truck running when all you had to do was a little preparation work. Maybe someone will post a link if you cant find the threads on this.

Since it is a new engine it is also recommended to inspect the engine to make sure there isn't any flashing or debris in the engine. And generally inspect the engine to make sure nothing looks out of the ordinary.

Doing this and a good sealing and you have a higher likelyhood of a well running long lifed engine.

Thanks guys for all the help, I actually looked up how to do it on youtube and watched a nitromad48 video on it and it doesn't look hard at all like I thought it was. Definitely going to do it b4 I break her in.

I sealed a used f4.6 after re-building it and cleaning it up. Previous owner never cleaned the truck since day one!!!
I do feel there is an improvement especially smoother idles and easier tuning. Sealed the backplate and carb with High Temp RTV, changed out the underhead and silicone rubber muffler gasket. It feels tamer now and gone is the jumpiness and finicky tuning. After a high speed run, it drops to idle clearly so test runs are easier too.

Maybe psychological as you know you have a cleaned out and brand new looking engine,...but whatever the case...something worked for sure!!
