Scuffing Starter shaft?

Ive been researching and trying to get an idea of how to resuscitate a used owb/shaft. The shaft and bearing are cleaned and still slipping. I was thinking about scuffing the starter shaft so the bearing would possibly grip it better? is this a good idea? or has anyone tried the rubber o ring on the shaft?

usually the bearing is why it slips..... I am not sure if scuffing that shaft would do the job....
Probably better off just getting a new bearing and start fresh

ive done it, and it helps a little

I would get the thickest o-ring u can find. I used a thin one, and it didn't help much.
