i have tuned the engine using the hsn and lsn untill i get good performance off the line and on wot. my problem is at half throttle the truck sputters as if it wants to cut out. any ideas how to sort this?

The K5.9 has a mid speed needle. You can attempt to adjust this, but I wouldn't recommend it as it can be really finicky. My suggestion is to make sure the MSN is at stock settings, which should be flush, and seal that needle down. They have a reputation of walking and or falling out (which is likely your issue).

Thanks for the reply. I did check the msn and it is still on stock setting set flush to the carb

At ~half throttle you are likely still metering with the LSN. My guess is the LSN is too lean.

Quick couple of tests (Make sure you at running temp)...

1. Do a nice WOT run to clear the engine out then let it idle for 10-15 seconds. Then punch to WOT again - what happens?
2. If you pinch the fuel line, how long until the engine dies and how does it die? just conk out gracefully or start to rev right up then die?
3. How much smoke is there at half throttle problem area?

1. I will not have my truck with me for the next week to to try. When I'm back i will check it.

2. If i pinch the fuel line the engine lasts about 4 seconds before it dies. Its die gracefully. No hight revving.

3. At half throttle there is a nice amount of smoke

Do you have an infrared thermometer? If so what is your temp after several wot runs? Your looking for 230-250 degrease. Always adjust your HSN first then your LSN. It should run for 1-2 seconds and rev up before it dies when you pinch the fuel line. When your tuned for the correct temps running with LSN flush try turning it in 1/8 a turn then test run.You should always have a stream of smoke but you can't go by that. I agree with the rest that the problem may be LSN adjustment. But the correct temp is the first step.
