i used to have a kyosho stadium truck and it was a ready to run and thats what it did out of the box. well a few weeks ago i sold it and got a savage xl. break in periode was torture it kept dieing on me no matter how much i babied it. if it was stoped and i would go from stop to 1/4 throttle or more all of a sudden it would die. and if i gradualy worked it up and went above 1/2 it would die. but i managed to do the break in 5tanks (partial new and partial old school). now it is fully broken it so i leaned it out but i am still having the same issue. if i punch it most of the time it dies and if i have it wide open it will run but if i let right off the throttle it dies. it doesnt hang up it just plain out dies. can someone please help me.

sight and sound. i have leaned it out about 1 1/2 turns from factory break in settings. and I'm having issues still. like during brak in and now also i cant even get through 1/10 tank of fuel without having to retart it. last tank it died like 15 times and i was so frusterated with it.

not realy to much smoke. the thing thats realy throwing me off is when i go from standstill to 1/4 throttle or more all of a sudden it dies and it also dies if i have it wide open then just releace throttle back to neutral position. but midband its all ok. and thanks for the help so far i appreciate people taking the time to help me out.

well no progress yet as it has been raining here for two days. but one thing i did notice while tinkering today is that the throttle return spring wasnt hooked up to anything. so i put it back were it was supposed to be. we will see tomorrow how it works now.

i had the same problem what i found was to only fill the tank half way to the shelf and then run it from there so start from standerd setting and only fill the tank half and tune it from there and with the savage you get half tank lean

search half tank in the search bar try this

since i found this problem i have put a different tank on from a xtm buggy witch is the same as the hpi trophy and moved the tank post down so it sits below the carb in let

if you like i can post some pictures of what i mean

Well I took it to we're I bought it and they checked it out and will be contacting hpi today as they think it's something in the motor internally. At my local track there's a guy who runs 2 savages and owns 4 or 5 and he couldn't figure mine out either. If u could post pics of tank that would be good cause I knew about the lean tank and was thinking of ways to fix it.

I had a guy in my shop today with a new Savage XL. I tried to help him tune it and I gave up. In my 10 years of Nitro R/C, I have never seen anything so hard to tune. I guess I have been spoiled with easy to tune SH engines. The guy finally decided to take the 5.9 out and put in a SH .28 8 port. At least now I can show him how to tune it.

i have read in places that the 5.9 engine is a pain in the but to tune that why a lot of peeps pull the 5.9 out and put in the sh.28

well new engine was in on fri and was broken in yesterday with same issues and i had the 2 master tuners from where i got it stumped. they are so hard to tune. we have it running that its not stalling out on us constanly anymore. we get like 1/2 runs normally. but low end sucks. there is no low end torque at all so i got to fix that. and it wont shift out of first

oh its ideling fine theres just no punch in the low end. and its still having what i think is flooding isseues. like if it dies during run and you go to restart it imediatly and punch it it just kills it again. i dunno.

I have been having a lot of problems with the throttle return spring coming undone too. Anyway to keep it on better?
