Hi guys;
.
have about 6 tanks through my new savage x & had a couple of times, after it warms up, it would stall & then i would restart & it would stall when any type of throttle applied.
.
changed the plug & adj the throttle screw & it was a little better for 1 tank. Read some posts & adjusted the hsn (still stalled multiple times after warm up) and then adj the lsn.
.
seems to have cleared up the stalling, but would run hot (270-300). backed off the hsn & it would not wheelie & would stall after wot & release. adjusted hsn 1/8 turn to lean & wheelies came back & no stalling after hsn. still blowing blue smoke, sounds kinda rattle-ly but screams. seems that it will either run good (270-280) or not good (230-250).

will the heat kill my mill? ps. i am using hpi 20% fuel.....what fuel do you guys like?
 
It sounds like you are leaning the HSN to get the Low end of you motor tuned. This means you are probably running good at the bottom end but way too lean on the top end, which is why your temps are getting so high.
 
You can not adjust the LSN until the HSN is adjusted right! Does anyone have the HPI Vid links for him? If so --->Please!!!! post them for him to see. their in my other CPU or I would post them for you.

i am going to set the needles back to flush and try again. The situation that started the whole thing is that after i run it for a bit, i can get it running but it dies when i give it any amount of throttle. I am wondering if this is being caused by the 1/2 tank lean bcuz the fuel level is around 1/2 when it starts the stalling routine.

What temps do you guys avg when running? & thank you very, very much for helping me out with this.

It very well may be mid tank lean messing with your tune. Try this at your own will. It helps till you do a mid tank or other mods.

Follow that vid. It is the one I was talking about. Watch it as many times as you can stand to sit thru it! Pay close attn to all the sounds the mill makes. Even more so when he mis-tunes it! Ive found over time sounds are the first warnings you get and are awesome to learn on someone else's motor!

Back to what I was telling you to try... Make all your tuning adjustments after you are at half a tank. After that you can refill your tank to the half way point or run it fat on the top half. If running fat on top: Cold start it with half a tank till its warmed up to avoid headaches.

I had a mill that I could retune 4-6 times a tank the mid tank lean was that bad! But if you tune above half a tank you risk leaning the mill at mid to low tank levels. Some are worse then others. Different pipes and tap pressures effect the tune more than others. I have found the mid tank mod HELPS<--- its not a cure all fix... But it will keep a more solid tune that you can run for a full tank w/out a tickle. If you are to race tune a mid tank you will still see mid tank leaning But not "blow up your mill bad" like the stock tank position.

Do not use the temp gun to tune with! :nono: That is only a reference tool. If you tune like that vid teaches you to the "T". You will see your temps in the 230-250 range. This is all I can tell you with out doing it for you.

Hope this helps. You will get it soon, don't let it frustrate you!!! Always have fun. Don't worry about the mill to the point you hate the truck. It can happen! Keep in the back of your mind that once you learn tuning the motor, upgrades out there are endless. Most are better, faster, stronger! Anymore questions just holla. I/we are in the shout box allot for quick questions as well. Use it if you need it!!! Or just come say hello and shoot the poop with the guys...

Bank, thanks for feed back w/tuning and taking such a huge chunk of your time to help me out. Tuning on my sav is getting better and more fun. Although, i am looking forward to a mid-tank mod...can you recommend one?

UPDATE:----> shortly after this post in july, watching the tune vids 1,000 times & 6,000 attempts to tune, i got to the point where i started to hate my savage.
.
However, i made 1 final attempt & tore the truck down & midtanked it & bingo! Runs like a champ with the stocker F4.6 and i barely ever need to touch the tuning needles.

My Savage had the 1/2 tank lean like crazy, but now it is completely gone & i have about 1 1/2 gallons through since mid tanking & i love it. many thanks guys!
 
Wow freddy I don't even remember writing that. Wish I saw you were in MA at that point and not just last month...

Yep. you got me there bank, but it really would't have mattered back then because i couldn't get my truck to stay runnin' lol ......... but thanks for helping me on it because i was so frustrated back then that i was ready to light it on fire & roast marshmallows.
