I have only just commenced the running in process for my very old but never run Savage SS. I'v progressed to the point where the engine runs but will not continue without the glow plug igniter in place even though the engine has run for several minutes. In addition, there is a lot of unburnt fuel coming from the exhaust when running. In the case of the former problem, would I be using the wrong glow plug. In the latter case, perhaps the throttle settings are way out.
Any suggestions??

Also, could be time to lean out the HSN a tad.

Either way, if you replace the glow plug reassess your tune. Through out the burn in process you will need to lean in small increments. Keep in mind that major adjustments will be left until you notice your engine loosening up and burn in is finished.

Try a new plug and/or lean the HSN, turn clockwise about 1/8 at a time, also raise the idle rpm using the transmitter adjustment setting, maybe prewarm the engine if ambient temps are not in double figures.
