hey, i just bought my first nitro truck yesterday (HPI Savage x 4.6 Reverse)
I'm really new in to this.. but all of you have been there and know how it is 😛
anyways, when i starts the engine with the ignitor on and hit the throttle just a little bit the engine turns of, and when i do the same thing (with the wheels of the ground)) i can give a little more throttle before it "dies"
when taking the ignitor off it dies(most of the times) right away when i touch the throttle,
can anyone help me, i've tried to reset all the needles to normal break in.

it sounds like the idle screw is set wrong, should be 1mm opening.....low speed could be set wrong as well. try setting the needles back to factory and adjust the idle screw to see what happens, also go ahead and try another glo plug, sometimes they get eaten up during breakin.....these are just the basics,I'm sure others will chime in an help as well.....

...maybe its the glow plug, if i cant fix it i will try replacing the glow plugwith a new one.

i have(tried my best) to set the low/high needles to factory(its as fine as i ca get it)
the only thing i haven't resetted was te idle because i tink i adjusted that very good yesterday when nothing was adjusted it died during breaking, but now if i breake the engine will keep running cool.

may the problem be that my engine is getting too much fuel?

its possible ,but that falls back to the needle settings.....se what happens with a diff glow plug.

Welcome to the forum!!

Did you buy this savage new or used, and are you trying to break it in or just get it running? I will assume you bought it used so change out the glow plug like it has been said, but it sounds to me like you are running rich. Make sure the carb has about a 1mm gap. From the factory settings turn the hsn clockwise in 1/8th turn increments until you get the performance you want. Remember you need to have good smoke coming out of the pipe at WOT.

Here are a couple of tuning videos to help you out:

I experienced many of the same problems you are having when I first got my Savage. Mine was a really stubborn break-in. Pull the air filter off and look inside the carb. The gap should be about 1mm. Rule of thumb is to adjust your needles as follows: idle, hsn, and lsn. You always want to make sure you are not running the truck too lean. Therefore, once your idle needle is at 1mm, start adjusting your hsn at 1/8 turn increments CLOCKWISE until you notice a decrease in the performance. Once this happens turn back 1/8 turn until performance gets better. During my break in on a flat surface after I had already ran two tanks through on the stand I ran it rich and the performance was crappy but I was able to adjust the hsn needle to get it just right. Remember, blue smoke is good! Also like Bad67bird said, keep an eye on the glow plug as well. You may have burnt through one trying to break it in. Pull it and check it. Let us know how things are going. Welcome to nitro rc! You'll soon be addicted like the rest of us.
