Hi All
Happy New for 2009,

Yesterday I took out my XL and the rotor starter didn't engauge properly. Just like it would spin then just click the motor over like one stoke. It started and I then turned it off and re started it with no problems.

Today I went out with the same problem, I have taken the motor out and inspected the rotor gears and all appears to be ok. Put it back together but still having the same problem.

I have taken out the glow plug and the motor turns over with the rotor starter

Any ideas..
Your help will be much appreciated.

the one way bearing under the rotostart plate on the back of your motor is probably slipping. you can try to take it off and clean it. you will need to order a new one but the cleaning should buy you a bit of time

At the risk of sounding really dumb here, is the one way bearing behind the plate after you remove the black part the the rotor fits into?

Are there and pics or vids that might show me?

just to make sure, when you say "it would spin & click the motor 1 stroke" do you mean the rotostart wand & your mill would stop spinning & kind of bind up, or would the roto & cup in the back of the plate keep spinning without cranking the mill, cuz there are 2 separate problems there:

the rotor and cups keep spinning without turning the motor over, its not bindinding up and the overload button has not kicking in.

try heating the motor with a hair dryer before starting it. It worked for me everytime when I have that problem.

Got some pics of the damage to the OWB, Its a little hard to get a good clear shot.

This shot you can see the hole for the pin has become elongated.

This shot you can see the side has been rubbing, I am guessing this is due to the elongated hole.

Is this common damage to see to the OWB?

This is actually the first time I have seen a problem like that with a OWB, usually the only problem you see on a OWB is they just spin.

You will have to just replace that sucker.

Also possible that the engine is too rich in the beginning.
When the engine is cold, loosen the glowplug for 1/4 of a turn, try to start the engine, after it runs, fasten the glowplug.
Works for me !

Thats EXACTLY what happened to my XL i think i need to dig into mine Tommorrow!! Is this a problem on the XL i haven't even ran 3 tanks yet!!!
