When your replacing your spur gear should u tighten all the way or tighten than untight half turn which is more better
 
Half turn out is too much. I run mine locked, but it is there for a reason. If you do any jumping I'd go 1/4 turn out or so. The slipper is to protect the the driveline from shock. Say.. landing a kooky jump trying to save it under throttle.
 
I run mine locked down all the time, even when jumping it will still slip to keep the gears safe....
 
Well i finally got around to changing it and apparently on the older savage witch i have u have to unbolt motor unbolt side rail and front bumper to get spur gear out it was a nice lil project next time i know excatly wat to do
