i have the axial .28 and keep breaking pull starts i don't like the roto start do to the owb problems. i was wondering if their is a good/Better pullstart that will work with my mill?

The axial one is about the best. The HPI one fits but I always had better luck with the Axial one.

Do not pull it all the way out as this is what typically breaks the springs. All you should have to do is flick your wrist.

I also had the worst luck with Axial pulls compared to any other brand of engine I have ever ran. Actually I think they are the only pull starts I have ever busted.

you just said they are the best and the worst in the same post??

LOL, I'm confused. I just broke the spring in my hpi pull start. Not too imressed with it at all. I was careful with it and it only started my truck like 4-5 times. First the spring came undone so I took it apart and fixed it which was a royal pain and then a couple starts later the spring actually broke right at the bend. Also, it wasn't due to flooding because a couple of those times it fired on the first pull! I threw the roto plate back on so I can still use my truck but I didn't want to do that sice I have a brand new OWB and shaft in it. But, it's either that or I wait a week or more to use it till I can get another pull start. Larsen, if the axial pull start is good which part number is it so I can order one for the k5.9? Do you know?

don't pull it out of the motor more then 6 inches no need to and thats what breaks the springs. its not a lawn mower ...

i am very carfull with them this last one started my truck twice then broke, i never pull the cord all the way out

it don't take all the way out. it will break the spring just over half of its length. Hold your arm still and just move your wrist. thats all the action yo need to start the motor. Bend your elbow at all and your asking to break it

me when i rebuild my pullstarts i use mason string its rated at 200lbs breaking stength. i also remove about a 1/4 of the spring to give it some room to coil up. when i do this they last for a long time. on the axial or hpi pulls.

may try that as well mikey but I'm not breaking strings just the springs.
