Pull start

I had recently bought a sts d30m engine with a pull start and when I went to
start to breaking it in whenever I tried starting it the string wouldn't retract as
it should it would also come completely out requiring me to remove the pull start
so that I can get the string back in. I was wondering if there was a way of making
it easier for the pull start to retract back into the case as well as easier to start?

The STS motors always had TIGHT pinch. Make sure to heat your motor up to with hair dryer or heat gun before trying to start it during break-in. Also sounds like your OWB (One Way Bearing) is bad?

It should retract back in without any problems.

don't remove it yet, try moving your flywheel back and forth with your finger and see if it retracts then, usually that does the trick
