I'm helping a kid fix a cheap nitro buggy that he got for a gift quite some time ago. I got it running good, but his pull start is shot. The OWB is 14mm, but all the pull starts I have tried to measure seem to be for 12mm OWB's. Not to mention the backplate isn't the same as some of the pull starts I have tried to fit it with. I'm starting to think that the shaft may be a weird size too. I found that a Traxxas PS for the TRX .15 has mounting holes that are pretty close and would only need slight modding to fit. I'm think I could open up the hole in the PS where the shaft goes in (since it is slightly too big) and then carefully grind the OWB down, since there is plenty of extra metal around the outside of it, to fit it into the TRX PS. That way at least if his PS goes again he can get it from a hobby store. I figured I would just run this by you guys, and see if you know of any small block pull-starts that would fit a 14mm OWB?

It is a .15 out of a cheap chinese buggy. I was able to find a couple sites that sell the parts but I was trying to set him up with something he could get locally if he broke it again in the future.

I got two pull starts to try but they were both for a 12mm OWB. So I just got done modding this OWB and the TRX .15 PS to make it work. I ground down the 14mm OWB to make it into a 12mm hex and ground down one of the faces to make it more narrow. Then I slightly modded the mounting holes in the PS, and did a little dremeling to the inside face of the PS for clearance. The site where I found the original parts only sells the PS with a OWB, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try and make this one work if his only other option was to buy a new PS and OWB for $28 plus shipping anyway. Seems to be working fine now and mounts up nice and tight. Thanks again for the quick responses. This was a cheaper fix for him since this buggy really isn't worth anything, and I think it will last. If it ever happens again he can just get another one of these traxxas pull starts, and with a couple minor mods to the holes, it will fit right on. The most time consuming part was grinding down the OWB LOL!
