problem with engine

i have a savage that i got off a trade from craigslist. the truck starts fine but when it starts up it revs up,tires spin and it cuts off. i have the needle valve open like someone told but it still does it. any suggestions? thanks

Sounds like you have a major air leake.

Take the engine out and inspect it for leakes.. Welcome to hpisf man

first off wanted to thank you all for welcoming me to the forum, i finally got it idle last night thanks to you guys but now when i pull the throttle it stalls out. any suggestions for that?

Welcome buddy, try to lean your high speed needle 1/8th at a time sound like its to rich. or put your HSN to factory setting it should be flush with the housing. Most of the time from factory settings its no more then 2.5 turns clock wise for a good setting but of corse climent weather factor. Cheers!:beer:
