Hey guys just got a new savage x 4.6 have already broke it in been trying to lean it out some having trouble with it running hot i have plenty of blue smoke as long as its smoking good does temp really matter i know the manual says 250 I'm running about 270 any less it runs like crap.

270 is not a bad temp as long as it continues to have good smoke. If I have not said it yet....Welcome to the Forum!!

I never sealed my son's F4.1. It also runs best at 270 F. But that's running it really hard. I've always run O'Donnels 20% with a OS A5 glow plug.

I just acquired a F4.6 and put it in truck #3. It runs the same temps (roughly) as the F4.1.

So, I just wonder if my temp gun is reads high. The F4.1 has no less than 7 gallons through it and it runs great.... For me 270 F is nothing to worry about....

Before I got my cooling head, 280 was pretty normal for me. The manual is a conservative number.

Much thanks ill ccheck for leaks to would a new engine have leaks or is this just a precaution.

I get similar temps with my XL's 5.9. Around 270-280. Runs really strong and still has a nice smoke trail so I'm thinking this is just a good temp for these motors.
