One way bearing issues? Help

I seem to be going through more OWB's than I should. Wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there is something I should be doing differently.

Seems that my one ways are fine and working perfectly without any issues then after the trucks are stored for a while and I pull them back out the one ways wont grab anymore. Happening on both trucks, stock engine and LRP.28 one with rotostart the other pull start. If I play with them a bit I can get em to grab a little. I don't use after run oil because I live in a desert (no humidity) and my engines always seem wet with oil inside when I pull them apart.
Been running Traxxas 20% because thats all my LHS had. Seems to run great.

IMO sounds like oily residue is building up on the bearing.It may be as simple as cleaning the bearin real good before runnin. The owb should not go bad from storage. A roto start can be rough on owbs.Ive had 2 lrp 28s never had owb go bad from sitting.Good luck.

The Traxxas fuel has a VERY high oil content which can cause your OWB to slip. Have you always run Traxxas fuel in the truck?

No. Just started. But I had this problem before using it and running O'donnels.
Oil is good for the engine. Bad on OW.

Anyone tried using aftermarket OW bearings like Boca?

Boca makes some great bearings. but like said above, one-way bearings mostly fail due to heavy amounts of oil.

traxxas is very heavy oil content like thesmilingpirate said I had issues when I ran blue thunder as well went to O'donnel and haven't had an issue till the mill blew on me cause i beat the hell out of it hitting 330* many times

So far I pulled the LRP and cleaned the bearing and now its working like new. I make sure to run the engine completely out of fuel before storing it now.

Boca does make the bearing but you have to press the old one out and press the new one into the housings. Pretty easy to do. Both my LRP and stock X engines use the exact same one way bearing. Gonna give those a try.

I agree. I just quit running traxxas fuel in my picco cause cleanin out the owb got old. Just got my case of werks 30% in. Gonna see how it does. Best thing to do is clean it out with brake clean a scuff up the shaft that goes through it lightly with sandpaper to get it to grip better!

if your one way bearing seems to be slipping from time to time i have found that carb cleaner works wonders just spray some carb cleaner on the one way bearing and it will be good to go again.

I had this prob. many gallons ago and someone on here suggested to carry it by the back bumper , so from that time I let it cool nose down so the OWB can drain out and carry it by the back bumper...no prob sense
P.S. always turn the crank to BDS

Acetone

Hello all...

Of u already have a pile of old owb's lying around, put them in a glass jar with acetone... Seems to dissolve all oils on the owb... Works like a charm!
