Hello,

I have been trying to get my STS D28M engine (with factory settings on the carb, though changing them doesn’t seem to help any) to work correctly in my HPI Savage LE for six months now. Please keep in mind I am not new to nitro engines, and the hobby shop couldn’t fix it either, they kept wanting more money to help me. So here’s what’s happening. Upon starting the engine (which is does not hesitate to do) it will idle normally for a couple minutes. Then will start to rise as the engine warms up. The revs will drop as you lower the idle, but it just starts coming right back up. Once it's warm and you blip the throttle it will rev up correctly and drop back down, but not back to where it was idling before. The servo is working correctly along with the throttle return spring...I've done everything I can think of. This includes taking the thing apart and checking for any wear. I've sealed the engine and bubble checked. Of course I replaced the glow plug. I put all new O-Rings on the needle valves. However, even with all this, nothing has changed and it will eventually keep revving up until it revs too high for the break-in settings and dies...I've leak checked my fuel tubing and tank and have since replaced them along with my fuel filter. Everything is air-tight and new on the engine (I can't even get it working well enough to break it in.) Please help, I'm fresh out of ideas. The only thing I can think of is that when it gets hot the metal is not expanding uniformly and causing air to leak in. Everything is sealed and I’ve check the head and shims for leaks and proper tightness utilizing the X-pattern technique. It’s a shame I got a bad engine directly from the manufacturer. For now I’ll probably just put a new piston, sleeve and con-rod in the stock engine…

well first off welcome to the forum!! secondly I'm not sure were to start as it sounds like you have gone through a long list of things that haven't fixed the problem.. I'm wondering if it was just a manufacturing defect or something maybe they will replace it as i know hpi has been known to do things like that at times.. i know that doesnt help much, hopefully someone else here can give you some better advice....

i have been having a similar prob with my 3.3. trx just told me to send it back but i decided to try a few more things. i put an extra head shim in and richened it up another turn out. And what oil% does your fuel have? if its not labeled change to a fuel that is and keep it above 12% oil. Also i did'nt do this but change out the exhaust pipe with something else. That may seem stupid but i bough an aftermarket pipe and it made my truck run just like that, bad idle, high rpm and temp, and it wants to run wot with the carb closed. hope something helps bud good luck, and welcome.

I already have an aftermarket exhaust on the Savvy. I'm using Trinity monster fuel 20% nitro. I've heard that STS went out of business... Hopefully I can get some support.

Just last week i got some support from STS so I'm pretty sure they are still in business. Shoot them an email..
