My F4.6 has low compression. It will start and run, but once it is warm it is impossible to start. I'm really thinking about buying another engine. I have been reading up on engine threads to get some information. Since I don't compete, race, or bash, I don't need a high dollar engine. I would like something that uses the F4.6 rotostart. My budget is not very big. I can send in my bad engine and get a new F4.6 from HPI for $129. Since I have no problem with the 4.6, this is an option. I'm only looking to spend about $150 since all I do is run my truck up and down the street. Is there anything better than the F4.6 for my meager budget that still allows me to use rotostart?

That is what I was thinking, Judicator. I was just wondering what other options were out there (within my budget). I'll just send in the old motor on Monday. The next month, I"ll send in my other old motor and have a new one on standby.

sounds like a good idea Preacher....to be honest, i'm not sure what other engines out there will be better AND still use the same rotostart....The SH engine may use the rotostart...but they may not be better than the F4.6...

the f 4.6 is a great engine in my opinion,i prefer it over the k 4.6 hands down,as far as other engines theres the axial motors which are cheap at around $100 but arent any better or more powerful then the f 4.6 really and the sh engines are a nice motor to, the higher quality sh engine with 8 ports is around $150 i believe and the one i had was a beast so theres a few choices out there........

I want to thank you guys for your advice. You confirmed what I already thought to be true. I'm going to strip my old engine and send it back to HPI tomorrow. I'm going to order a new flywheel, clutch shoes, gearbox case, and brake shoes and do some additional work while I'm waiting on the new motor to arrive. My new 2.4ghz radio will arrive tomorrow, so I'll bind it and install the receiver. I'll probably upgrade the steering servo to a higher torgue digital one. I might to the same with the throttle/brake server (unless someone tells me that this is not necessary). The hard part will be going all this time without being able to play!!!

what i did man was buy a new "more powerful" steering servo and used the stock steering servo for my throttle/brake and it worked nicely..this way you don't have to buy 2 servo's right now and the stock steering servo powers the throttle/brake quite well...... unless your wanting to go digital or something!! lol

I emailed them last week and have gotten no response as to shipping cost and turn around time. I'm lacking in patience and want to solve this engine problem, so unless I hear from them by tomorrow, I'll spend the additional $30 and just send the old one back to HPI for an exchange.
