what do you guys think about this mod/
untitledBUTTON_GROVES.JPG

i know pretty much nothing when it comes to engine modding but would be interesting to try on a spare engine or whatever to see if it makes a difference..

XRC (if I remember right) did a write up on several versions of the button mod. One with fangs similar to that registered a slight gain. The rest did nothing. The gain was so slight however, it didnt really justify doing it. Maybe somebodys still got the article?

I'm not sure if it would make much of a difference but I guess every little bit is a little more power, More the Merrier in my book. I hope someone has the article as I would like to see it.

Crash try it see if you see a difference. If so let us know and show us some Pict's of what you did. It sure can't hurt the engine.

thats what I remembered also. but, since I am running out of
modding knowledge I thought I'd try it.

like you said, there will be little if any noticable dif.

That does work but is such a little increase in power not worth messing with. More for better mileage and cleaner burn rate than for power gain. I've tried it be careful can mess up the button very easily.

.
improvements in mileage & cleaner burn rate sound good 2 me though... are the gains noticeable? .. wouldn't mind hearing the before & aft results....
As always, nice work Crash never heard of this or would dare ever try it myself, but very interesting to watch these modds develop (much more interesting & fun to run them tho, lol)

That is an intersting question Dan. Why don't you try experimenting the idea with that Thunder Tiger motor I gave you. Remember, I gave you that motor to use for experimentation. Why not?

You could run the motor and see how it runs and then do just the button mod and see if the fuel economy is better. Then do a full mod and see what it's like.

When I talked about doing this with Robin a few weeks back he told me the same thing about this test you are talking about. But that's all I know so left my 2 cents.. If anything you do it wrong and it increases the combustion chamber volume lowering compression.... If this happens up your nitro content.

I ran one tank through it and inspected the head and piston and found
small pin marks in piston and button...oops

so, I had a spare button head (turbo) that I put on and ran it for another
tank.

inspected that head and it was perfect

Crash have you done anything with this porting of the button thing, yet?

Just wondering what you found. I was working on P & P of a Mach 427 last night and wondering if you have tried this yet. I will post Pict's of my mod before long. I just need to do the crank yet but need to find some time at night to get back to work so I can lighten the Crank up some.
