Looking for ideas to make from Carbon Fiber, alum? PRC, Updated Continually!

Hello everyone, I am starting to make a few parts from Carbon Fiber, Aluminum and possable some fiberglass. At this point I will be starting with Carbon Fiber. The materials thicknesses I have right now are 1mm, 2mm and 3mm. But more are available. My parts will be designed in Solidworks with great detail and cut using CNC machines. I'm looking form more ideas of things you guys may look for in carbon fiber. These parts must be flat as I'm not going to be bending these parts. They can be for any R/C product. I will inturn at some point start a web site to sell this stuff along with my LHS, but will have to see what happens as I have a few options.

At this point I have a few things designed as such:
Savage:
-Extended LCG TVP's
-Skid Plate
-Motor Plate
-Steering Link

A few misc helicopter parts

I am working on a Team Losi Slider Chassis, Mini LST Chassis plates, T-Maxx chassis and have alot of other ideas to make things for like the Baja, LST, Lost 8ight, & 8-T and so on.

What are your ideas (things that would sell)?

For Pictures and Pricing start at post 46 and go forward! (somewhare around PG 6)

maybe a bumper a stand to put the car on? i duno really.
hope they are good ideas
4x4

That might be a good one 4X4 with the LST shock mount. They had better be from 4MM CF, but I'm not sure how to do the bottom one unless I made that one from Aluminum becuase it needs to be bent just a touch.

Thanks for your guys help so far. You got some good Ideas.

Ya I could do some Hellfire parts for sure. I would just need some plates which I can get measurements from, also an idea of where I can cut slots and so on to lighten it up more if there are any. No one around here has a hellfire and ive spent alot lately so i couldnt afford to get one unless I can talk my LHS to order one in then sell it when i get some measurements which he is more than willing to do so.

careful with making the shock mounts out of CF...you'll have to leave ALOT of meat around the mounting holes for them to work...CF IS tough, but because it is made out of woven fibers, it can shred if you just try copying the existing size shock mounts...

I've got some red/black CF that I intend to make TVP's for my racer out of (3mm)...not sure what else will be CF on it yet though...

Ya you deffanetly need the gurth for the shock towers. I wouldn't go any thinner than 4MM if not 5 on them and deffanetly not cut much out of them.

All right guys. Question: In my design for my skid plate on my Extended chassis do you think it would be allright to have cut outs on the bottom of the skid plate like all the way threw or do you like it solid so absolutely no debree can get threw?

I will try to post some picts this weekend so you can see what ive done and get ideas from them.

This is my thinking to but It would be nice to have it lighter to. Carbon Fiber wouldnt be bad for being solid and weight but Aluminum it would be nice to have it light.

Make some with holes for racing and some solid for bashing. If there's holes and you go bashing, something making it through the skidplate would defeat the purpose. Or you could just make them solid and leave it up to the customer making your parts cheaper due to less work.

Under the brake would be solid to keep debree away from them it but I would possably cut some of the rest away.

Your probably right. Just make a solid one and be done with it.

This is just a suggestion, and it might be a crazy one at that, but why couldn't you offer a solid skid plate to keep debris out but then grind out certain parts of it to reduce weight? Or maybe machine out certain areas and then use some scrap lexan to cover the open areas: this saves weight but still keeps debris out.

Plus, it might be kind of neat to have "windows" in your skid plate, even if it would get scuffed up pretty quickly.

YeahYeah-This would be kind of neat but would bring cost up a ton. One thing I could do is make one from Lexan so the whole skid would be clear.

They must have been plexi not Lexan. Most bullet proof glass's and most machine guarding is from Lexan it doenst crack very easy.

I've got some parts on my shumacher that I would to swap out for CF, but not sure how well they'd sell if mass prod. Unless your willing to make special request for HPISF members. I'd be interested in the future.

Between me and blazer one of us I'm sure will send some hellfire parts to copy. have to wait for the snow to fly to stop running it though. I'll let ya know when i get it tore down.

This is my thinking to but It would be nice to have it lighter to. Carbon Fiber wouldnt be bad for being solid and weight but Aluminum it would be nice to have it light.

I saw a cf skid on another site that was made of very thin cf (1.5mm if i recall correctly) VERY little weight, curves to the contour easily, and really there shouldn't be a ton of force if it hits anything (TVP's will catch most of it)

It is more to keep debris out so thin and no holes / openings should be good?

Larsen if you are doing extended lcg chassis plates, you should see if you can put some holes at the back and make a rear steer kit for it. ie. using the stock steering assembly (tough) at the back with servo plate mounted behind the engine. I don't know if it would fit but it would make your chassis unique.

Allright, I got some pictures off of solidworks. Keep in mind some of these parts will change. I will try to list some of the things that will change abouve the pictures.

I will start with the TVP's. These are pictures of the thing assembled with everything oviously I will break these apart into kits. These are drawn to be made from aluminum so they will be some different when i get them updated to cut from carbon fiber. I also need to add some holed in the front half so I can add a mid tank mod, at this point i many just advertise that the Innovative RC kit may fit them in the end. Otherwise this is the compleat chassis and all parts that I have Beeen working on for the savage.

The skid will probably be solid when cut from Carbon Fiber

This is a rear wing for the Mini Titan helicopter I am also working on a top wing for it along with the same type of parts for other heli's.

These are chassis for the Team Losi Mini Slider the top one is for the Modified one where you can place a flat pack very close to the ground. The second one is just a carbon fiber stock chassis.

I have cut a prototype from plastic on the Modified chassis yesterday 12/15/07.

I will be working on a T-Maxx chassis, Losi 8ight-B/T parts and many others.

Let me know your thoughts.

Sweet stuff Jason! If you make those out of aluminum I may buy from you. I bash my savy but if I race later I would like the carbon fiber. I've got a carbon fiber boom kit for the Blade CX, let me know if your interested, it's in pieces right now. Wind 1, Parker 0!
