well they shouldnt have any air in them, And when you assemble them squeeze them without any springs on them, if there is backlash, there is too much oil, you should be able to push it all the way in and it stay that way.
Another tip from me to you is fill them up, wait, then squeeze them if they make an odd sound there could possibly be a bit of air in them, try to eliminate the air, and you have perfectly filled shocks.
hope this helps as shock filling is almost hit or miss for me, I never seem to get it right and well there is no real guide for it, just says fill em then your good to go pretty much.
