well they shouldnt have any air in them, And when you assemble them squeeze them without any springs on them, if there is backlash, there is too much oil, you should be able to push it all the way in and it stay that way.

Another tip from me to you is fill them up, wait, then squeeze them if they make an odd sound there could possibly be a bit of air in them, try to eliminate the air, and you have perfectly filled shocks.

hope this helps as shock filling is almost hit or miss for me, I never seem to get it right and well there is no real guide for it, just says fill em then your good to go pretty much.

Just FYI Ive been filling shocks over and over for it seems forever. When it comes to ones with no bleeder screw as these are. I always trap air in at least 1 of 4. As a I did these.

+1 to Scrogathon and Ill add to the noise as a swishing sound that gets worse the more you compress it. Over and over, not depth...
Just open it and re-bleed it till its quiet. Its trial and error. Cap it slow wiggling side to side I find works best. The cone in the cap of the BBs helps. My 4 cents..

i just let them sit over night... poke four holes in a shoe box so they have something to sit in...

I let them sit for a while before i capped them off. it seems i might have added a little too much oil since i am getting very little and slow backlash once they are capped. Maybe ill try again.

I have just filled mine and moved the shaft up and down slowly and the oil level droped as the air came out, do they need to be filled right to the top again before I put the caps on?

yes there is a picture in the instructions that shows what the oil should look like before you put the cap on....

Does anybody think HPI will fix the problem with the lower cup. Lost one a few minutes after having my savage out. Ordered replacment and it only comes with 2 cups.

I'm cosidering a set myself , i'd like to have seen a boot for shaft to help protect them from scaring , like they have on 8th scale buggies, maybe some bad horsie shock covers? just a thought.

I had 2 fall out so I joined the cup's to the spring's with a very small cable tie's so they don't pop off..haven't had on pop off since.

I run 40wt and changed the rear dampers inside to the 1.6t. It was just too soft in the rear for me. I will do the front the same as soon as I get time. I like the shocks so far. No issues at all.

I'm runing 30wt in both, and i agree the back is way soft with the stock piston and 30wt oil....

I know some people like to be able to see their shock shafts but the Bad Horsie covers make a nice addition. I took my truck in the mud and the shock covers were covered yet I took the springs off the shock and it was like new and I just washed the covers which took all but 5mins or less.

I think those covers might help retain the cup at the bottom too, as the tuck between the two pieces?

I ended up ordering a hellfire shock 'dress-up' kit, - aluminium cups, caps and shaft ring/seal bit from the bottom of the shock body. I got it as I thought the plastic botttom cups looked a bit flimsy and I can see the spring-supporting flange giving out at some point.

Also think the gut who mentioned using a small zip-tie to hold the spring onto that bottom cup has it right :thumb: there are small oval holes through the bottom cups just right for threading a small piece of fishing wire through and tie the spring down to the cup. Either that or just glue cup to the spring and be done with it.

Not sure how I'm going to secure the aluminium cups I have on the way yet, they look solid and I cant see the same holes. Hoping they will be a slightly tighter fit as far as the shaft slot goes at least.

I got them on eBay.com, seller 'bizarrehobbies" item no. 290245243083 (2 sets). I'm in the UK and only bought them last wednesday so I don't think I'll have them here until end of next week though, but I'll post pics once I have them. They aren't super-cheap so hopefully they'll be fine and improve the weak points of the cap and spring seat. Should look good too. Once somebody brings out a threaded body for the shock I'll have replaced the whole thing lol.

Haven't gone for the shock socks yet but probably order today once I know what colour I want!

Just to follow up... the aluminium dress up parts for hellfire shocks arrived.

All the parts seem nice, CNC'd not cast and very light. I will address the parts individually:

1) The caps for the bottom of the shock body (where the shaft goes in) do not fit the big bores. The bottom seal arrangement of the big bores is different. Cannot be used.

2) The spring seats are looser than the plastic ones but a lot stronger. A small piece of electrical tape stuck inside the section that fits over the ball end section makes them snug. I thinks once they have the shock socks on they will be securely retained.

3) The caps for the top of the shock body seemed to fit well, but they do not seal airtight, I was pushing shock oil through. It turns out the part numbers for the hellfire shock cap and that of the big bores are different, and the hellfire caps use a washer around the bottom. There must be some difference between the two as the silicone bladder is the same part no. for both.
If/when HPI release their aluminium caps for the big bores, I will be interested to see if it is the same part as they offer for the hellfire shocks. Which would confirm/disprove my theory.

So... of the 3 parts per shock I am using just one 🙁 The caps looked good on, but if they won't seal airtight I have to assume they are a small fraction longer than the big bore caps. So it makes the seats kind of expensive at $40 for four.

In short, DO NOT BUY the Hot Racing dress up kit for Hellfire shock for your big-bores (unless you want to buy the remaining bits off me FOR HELLFIRE SHOCKS!)

Thats weird that the caps don't fit right. i heard they were the same as the hellfire caps. i just ordered some hellfire caps because i broke a cap the other day. hope they fit ok

Yes I have bottomed out and broken the shaft/mount eyelet ends. I am currently redoing my fluid/piston set up.

But I would like to say they are top notch and have actually broken more ends on my LST@ shocks from the same jumps...so I really like the Big Bores better! I want to replace the LST2 shocks. IMHO they are tops but like any other shock you must find the right settings for your truck and style of driveing!
