How to fit Axial .32 into my savage?

Please can anyone advise me what I need to do to fit a Axial .32 into my old savage 21? what parts will I need to change, upgrade??

I had the Axial .32 given to me by a friend and thought I would try and put it in my savage 21.
Any advise would be very helpfull.

As far as I know you wont need anything-should be a direct fit but I have been wrong before.
I would suggest a Nova motor mount though so you can get the spur gear alignment fore and aft if necessary.
 
Will I need a 3-piece clutch and a vented clutch bell?? also please can someone advise me what gearing I should use?? will 18/47 be ok??
 
If you get a Nova mount, you might want to jb weld the nuts in place once you find the correct location. Otherwise it can be a real hassle to deal with. The nuts end up under the motor and are almost impossible to hold still if you take the mounting bolts all the way out like removing the engine.
 
What I have done with my nova mount is just red loctite the nuts .. works great and they say in place ..

I would prefer more top end speed, and would like to use existing engine mount as I cant find anyone in the uk selling the nova engine mount.
What is the best gearing to use to keep existing engine mount without any mods??

I have fitted engine today and whilst brakeing in on the first tank the engine started to rev quite high whilst idleing :Mr.confused:

I stopped the engine and let it cool at BDC and then started it again but it did the same thing after about 3 mins idleing??

I have left the neddles at factory settings and don't know what to do next?? I don't want to continue the brakeing in process in case something is wrong?? and advice anyone?? It seemed like it got quite hot as I could feel the heat pumping of the head??

Sounds like a possible air leak. Was carb and backplate sealed? If it has been sealed then I would try richening the LSN a little bit.
Mine did the same thing on break in and LSN was too lean.
 
I started the second tank for the break in and this time I used a hair dryer on cold to kep the engine cool and it was fine, but as soon as I took the hair dryer away for 3 mins it started to rev high again!!

How far shall I turn the LSN?? and do you thik this is the problem?? I don't think it is an air leak because it is fine as long as it isnt to hot...

Did you seal the motor????
Air leaks are weird and get better or worse with different temps.
As far as LSN turn it out a 1/16th at a time and keep track of where you started.
I know on my Axial 1s both needles are very touchy and I see a big change with little adjustments.
Hang in there- don't give up on it yet-after break in is when the fun starts.

I think Grumpy was talking about the nuts sliding back and forth once you have removed the bolts, as in taking the motor off of the mount. The motor mount I have is the same way, that's why I'm just gonna switch back over to the stock motor mount, maybe, not sure yet. Livewire, as far as answers for your questions, I believe you have already gotten them. Listen to what everybody has to suggest, they know what they're talking about. I personally don't have any experiance with Axial motors, so I'm sorry I couldn't be of any help. Also, welcome to the forum. Hope the break in goes good.

Welcome Limewire, I have a Axial 32 and had the same problem. I called Axial from factory settings turn your LSN 1.5 turns counter clock wise also make sure that you Idle screw adjustments are correct. some mills ask to turn clockwise to slow the idle down Axial u have to turn counterclock wise to turn the idle down and clock wise to tune it up try that buddy. I have the Axial running now and it was pulling very well breaking it in half throttle (It was to good to be true), but when I finally finished the break in (after 5 tanks all together) I gave it full throttle a few times and now the nut on the end of the spur gear keeps working it's self loose causing the slipper clutch to slip resulting in no drive (the one on the spurr gear) !!
I have put some blue locktight on it and I hope it will solve the problem for tomorrow....any suggestions if this doesent work would be helpfull?? so I don't loose an other day as I cant wait to tear up the local BMX track, lol

Check your throttle linkage. It may be hitting the spur nut at WOT. If not get a new nut and loc tight as you have done.
Get vid at BMX track if you can!
 
Those locknuts wear out easily. Loctite will get you by but just tighten it all the way. Another thing to do on the axial engine is use some gasket sealer like you used to seal the engine and put some on the mid needle to seal it up and to keep it from moving around. Axial carb needles have a chronic issue of being poorly made. The mid needle should be flush with carb body.
 
Do not use Loctite on the nut that holds down the spur. Loctite eats away plastic and will eat the part of the nut that holds it tight. If you find that the nut is not staying on, replace it with a new one.

From the UK, We have a nice bit of dry weather at the moment so I have told my work I am ill, so I can have the week off to go rip up a few BMX tracks whilst all the kids are at school!!

Thanks for the advice, I have put locktight on ther nut over night so I am guesing I have made it worse!! O well a new nut wont cost much!! :resp:

well if ur dropping that big of a motor in a little .21 set up then u might wanna upgrade ue diffs if u already haven't cuz that .32 will strip them in a second

Yeah I got the x 4.6 diffs in so I hope they will stand up to the task!! I melted a spur gear now!!! I'm thinking of cleaning the savage up and just puting it on the shelf :cussing:

I think the slipper is playing up, I am going to replace the spur and see how it goes this time....:dmt:

If that does not work I'm gonna direct drive it...
