How did my piston crack !!

Well after i got home from Wasaga Beach Last night i took my truck apart to clean it & replace the OWB i noticed i have a cracked / broke piston !

P.S- Only 12 tanks of gas through it: 20% 12% !

Wel it runs ok the max temperature was 245°F, but it doesn't sound rite !

This is the first time i took the back plate off of the engine since i got it back on February 6Th 2oo9 and i don't know if it came like that but the pieces that broke off are no were to be found !

Thats exactly what happened to me, except with my motorbike. My Honda CR80 wasnt running right. The motorbike shop said to check the piston, so we did and a whole chunk of it was gone. We took apart the whole engine to find the pieces but there was nothing there.

Sure looks cracked off to me. Where did you get the truck back from in Feb?

I suppose the pieces could have exited threw the exhaust port or was done from the manufacturer. What engine is this?

It would most definitely sound run funny with this missing.

same thing happened to my 5.9. Piston cracked and put metal thru everything!!

that part of the piston skirt can be damaged during assembly or disassemble.

If you try to insert or remove back plate w/o putting the engine at tdc
