I need help with Tuning my savage. Right now its not in Factory Tuned, its all messed up now. I also need help with Making my Savage 25 shift gears which i believe deals with the tuning. Last but not least, What is a proper way to replace a spur gear? Thanks for your help everyone.

Your tune has everything to do with your shifting. Got to get that right first.

And the easiest way to replace the spur is to remove the top of the transmission with the spur attached.

Can you give more info on what it's doing?

Hi, Could you give a little more details on how to replace the spur gear, do you mean take the cover off the transmission? The tuning, Right now the truck can go but doesn't shift. Blue smoke comes out when i give it full acceleration. Any way i can set it back to factory setting and tune it from there or is this gonna be a long while to get it tuned right? The truck has a lot of power right now, it can make rooster tails in dirt and all, but its not shifting, and VERY sure the tuning is off, i messed with it, right now i can basically say the tuning is in a mess and i need to get it back to optimum power, Yet long lasting. Thank you for helping me.

Yes, the cover. Makes it a lot easier to get the spur off.

Sounds like your tune is not too bad. Do you know how hot it is running?

Make sure the spur is tightened all the way down and it is not slipping. Sometimes it will slip too much and go into 2nd gear immediately, so the truck appears not to shift. You can also test this by just giving it 1/2 throttle, if you can hear the shift then tighten the slipper.

Then try to lean the high speed needle a little.

Hi, No I don't know how hot its running, I did give it 1/2 throttle and i did hear it shift, but i did tighten it, Don't i have to release the nut a 1/4 way? Or that's unnecessary? Does having the wrong Gear tooth ratio effect the truck? i have a 52 tooth spur gear with a factory clutch bell, My hobby shop said the factory spur gear is 49, which i just bought. is the high speed needle the one next to the exhaust or the one on the other side of the exhaust? the only needle i messed with is the one next to the exhaust. Another thing is, since i am in the engine section, What is the best exhaust/tuned pipe for the Savage 25. I Like the rear exit because cool looking, and doesn't dirty the side of the truck but if it is worse than a side exhaust, don't bother. I just want to know the best exhaust/tuned pipe for the best performance. Budget doesn't matter either. Thanks.

Tighten the spur all the way down for testing purposes. If you can hear it shift at 1/2 but not full, then it most likely slipping too much and hitting 2nd as soon as you hit full throttle.

What motor do you have?

I have an s-25 motor, i found the engine manual online, it tells me how to get back to factory setting and then i can tune it from there. But taking the cover off, the rod that he spur gear is on comes off? Before what i used to do was take the whole side off to get to the spur gear, which i knew it wasn't the proper way. Too much stuff to take off. ill Tighten it down. Right now is raining, gonna be like that all day. Ill reply asap. Thanks

Oh, I was thinking that too. Thanks Mickey. Whipnet, the Savage 25 i have doesn't have a cover on the gearbox its two side pieces, so i guess i can pull out the motor. I'm gonna make a new thread about the exhaust for savage 25 so everyone can give me opinions.

yea whip he dosent have a x doh he said savage 25 lol easist is to pull motor and use a wrench to un loosen nut and then replace. sounds liek you mill is running rich thats why theres lots of smoke commin out your exaust
