HPI Part # Z544, its a M3x12mm screw, holding my engine on the mount. Countless clutch shoes (on my 4th set now, hopefully the Nova's will last longer than stock, MIP, and HPI Alu's...) and tranny mods have put unfair wear on it, and it is stripped. I tried angling the hex wrench, tried vice grips, tried taking the vertical plate off the side to get at it and try all of the above again, tried a T10 bit, tried a T15 (which now fits inside), tried drilling it out (two titanium tipped bits and a regular bit broken later...), all to no avail. I tried dousing it with a variety of chemicals as well to loosen it.

HELP!!! the little @%$@#@# just wont come off!

I cant get a grip on it with the vice grips to grab it, and I need to buy a new bit set for my drill.

Figures, when I thought I could get one last use out of it last time and ordered 12 new ones to have spares, this has to happen.

Anyone have any ideas? it is on the pullstart end on the right of the vehicle, its a HPI Savage X SS K4.6. *ANY* help is appreciated, specifically (at this point) drill bit recommendations to drill it out. Thanks in advance!

And many apologies if this is in the wrong section, I'm not sure where a question like this would go. I figured engine....

If there is enough left to work with try taking a cutoff wheel on a dremel and make a slot in the head and try to turn it out with a small flathead screwdriver.

See if you can get some ball tip hex drivers. I know when a screw is strip thats what I use and it almost always comes out. But since the screw is probably to wreck now I guess the only this to do is drill it out like you said or do what blazer said. I actually like blazers idea better if you can get it done.

Cut the head of the bolt off with a dremel! Cut the whole thing to pieces! You know it's the only way!

(so you'll need a new mount but hey ho)

Have you tried removing the cooling head and trying to get straight on the head with a T15 or imperial hex driver?

Have you removed the engine from the chassis and applied any heat to the area?

I would take the whole engine out with the mount and cut/grind the head off. After removing the engine you will be able to lock onto it with vice grips. Why are you takeing those out any way? I always remove the engine with the mount attatched to work on it. Those screws your dealing with should be locktited in. The mesh screws shouldnt and they are bigger, harder to strip.

I agree, just grind the head off after pulling the motor. Savage motor mounts are soooo cheap on Ebay, they're almost free!

get the tool called "grab it" 20 bucks solves all stripped screw problems for life
it works too!! Pull the cooling head off to get at it better too. With out this tool Id pull the cool head and slot with a wheel or just drill it out. Both will work with no harm to the mount.

yeah man i usually don't buy stuff off of the tv but when i saw this tool i was damn all broken heads solved with a lifetime guarantee and they give you like 4 different sizes.. best 20 bucks i spent aside from my nova alum shoes 🙂
