Guys just got my new picco .28 in today and was looking forward to having a useable truck again, but unfortunately found that the screw that holds the gear on the front of the crankshaft APPEARS to be the wrong size/thread pitch. I have been all over everywhere and have not found anything that will work. The threads appear to be fine but no luck. SO i need some help ASAP. Is the screw from my factor F4.6 supposed to be the same thread/size as what is supposed to be with my Picco, did i just get a messed up crank shaft or what????

no i didnt strip it, tried threading in by hand and screws in about 1/2 turn, then stops, also tried a few different brand new screws from LHS

Look inside, how deep does the hole go? Once I did find what looked like paper pieces jammed in one, it might just be something inside the tip.

we even looked inside it with a scope bc we could see nothing messing up the threads with the naked eye... I have had THE WORST luck with this dang truck and Picco.... more problems arose last night...

Well go to put the carb on, open up the package with o-rings and screw that holds on carb, well one of the o-rings had a small cut in it... i think it will still seal though. THEN i had my rope on my Pullstart break so go to fix that... man those pull starts are the biggest pain in the butt in the world. Getting that thing all wound back up and put back together took me 2 hours... dang spring!!!!

WEll whenever i went to pull the pullstart apart i noticed one of the screws on the casing was real loose, one of the three that holds it to the backing plate. Anyways go to tighten it back down when i was putting it back together and found out that some guy from the factory decided to strip out the backing plate... and no i didnt strip any of these, i always tighten everything down by hand then snug them. and when they turn easily by hand and never get tight... yeah.......

I'm just so frustrated.. had this thing for just now 1 week and have only got to drive it for about 10 mins... i don't know what i did, but it must have been bad to get this kind of luck!!!

Now guys don't get me wrong, i know all this bad luck is pretty hard to believe, but I'm not exagerating at all, this really all has been bad luck and no stupid input from me, other then maybe breaking the pull start rope...

More bad luck, nearly everthing i was going to order is on back order HA HA HA keeps getting better...

Also when i went to LHS they did not have any R4 glow plugs, how crazy is that, anyways so I'm having to reuse my R5 out of my HPI, i shouldnt have any problems doing that til i can get my hands on an R4 should i?

You may have to experiment a little with glow plugs. Sometimes a plug will work well for somebody in one climate, but not for someone in a different type of climate. I decided yesterday that I hate pull starts and will never use one again unless I have to. I have had horrible luck uising them on my k5.9. I have been so careful with mine and they just quit rewinding all the time. I have rebuilt them, and bought new ones. Nothing seems to make them last any better. I don't know if the k5.9 just has too much compression or what but they have been nothing but a nightmare for me and a big waste of money. The reality is that I prefer using a pull start over the roto, but when they break every other time you take your truck out, it just plain sucks. I'm done with them. My truck even started easily with it, it wasn't flooded, I was careful to only pull it out about 2-3 inches and everything, still broke another brand new one on the second day of use.

so does anyone know the correct part number for the correct losi spin start that will work with the Picco, and will the roto start work with the losi spin start back plate, or will i have to get the actual lose spin starter to go with it?

The roto start for the F4.1 will fit, you will need a wheel hex from a rs4 or some other 1/10 hpi rc to center the spring.

thanks bud... i have actually been using my roto start off my F4.6 with good luck but was looking for a better solution to the spring problem... thanks man

Well i ended up trying to run a tap through it since i was told the screw out of my original engine was the same thread, i got a tap for that thread size/pitch and it did not want to take it at all and ended up breaking the tap off inside. So i found a good deal on a brand new crankshaft and guess what.......... same deal. I HIGHLY doubt that i got two crankshafts with screwed up threads so I'm going to call Ofna in the morning and find out what the deal is...

I have tried the screw from my original engine and brand new screws of the same size/thread of my original with no luck............................. any thoughts? why is everyone telling me they are the same thread when i have gotten 2 that appears to not be the case

talked to ofna this morning and they are having me send in my crankshaft. Too bad they said it would be a couple weeks before they could fix it/send me a new one........ this REALLY REALLY sux.... the guy said it should be the standard 3mm screw like you guys said, also stated they were very busy and that he had some other calls with the same problem as mine.....

anyone got a crankcase for an F4.6 laying around? i sure could use one since apparently I'm never going to have a runnin picco.

lol don't give up ... http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-OFNA-ULTRA-...Control_Parts_Accessories?hash=item335ac2d805
that fits the F4.6 internals

called ofna today to check status on my crankshaft. THey have none in stock and are waiting on them to arrive from alberta from picco. So may be down a few more weeks. The ofna ultra LX crank that was posted in the link above... everything from my F4.6 should just go right in correct? no modifications or other parts needed?

another update. Ofna has probably the worst customer service ive delt with. Called them today and they seemed annoyed that i wanted to inquire about my crankshaft status. HE said well, he just talked to you about this friday, and i said no sir it was last tuesday, thats been almost a week. Anyways he says we have no status update, we are still waiting on parts from italy and we have no shipment date for the parts.....

went ahead and bought a crankcase for my F4.6.... the one from the ebay link above, hopefully that will all work as described.

Not to impressed with Picco/ofna at this point. quality control seems horrible as i cant find anyone with a crankshaft for sale that the threads arent messed up
