Not sure if this is in the right section

iv got my 1st savage x 4.6 and on the breaking in stage

iv done 2 tanks with it lifted off the floor but now when i come to try drive it at 1/2 speed in circles I'm having a nightmare

as soon as i press accelerate it stalls, the revs do not even raise and the car does not move at all

iv been told to try adjuist hi speed needle but nothing happens

any ideas???

Your low-speed needle is set really rich, which is common when coming brand new from the factory. Try leaning it out VERY little, like 1/10th or 1/12th a turn. If this doesn't help, lean the high speed needle about 1/8th a turn.

thanks, i thought that might be one thing to try but not done it yet as i was waiting back on peoples ideas

cheers 🙂

No problem man! Cheers. Be careful though, don't jump the gun on it. You want to adjust it VERY slowly so you just get it to the point where it will atleast drive around, no more than that.

Welcome to the forum krisr1978. I would say that after it has been idleing on a box for two tanks, the engine will be loaded with excess fuel. This needs to be cleared out, usually by bliping the throttle. Don't worry if it stalls when you try this, it's exactley what I'd expect to happen. What you need to do is lean out the high speed needle a bit. To do that you just turn it in clockwise. The break in settings are very rich, so you can probably afford to lean it up by one turn. You can do this while the engine is stopped or running, then try and squeeze the throttle gently to increase the revs. Again don't worry if it stalls, just be patient and try again. It may take quite a few attempts, because all that excess fuel in the bottom of your engine will make it run very rich as soon as you try and accelerate. Once the engines cleaned out, it should rev freely. When you have the truck running on the ground you will need to keep a check of your engine temp to make sure it's not too lean. Alternatively you may need to lean it out some more so that the engine runs smoothly. You also may want to consider the pro break in method click HERE and read the thread. Just follow what NITRONUT says, don't be affraid, it's very easy. Alot of people on here including myself are using this method, and personally I will never use any other !
Hope this helps you. If you have more questions just ask !
