So the original spur gear totally disintegrated this weekend. Not sure what happened but doesn’t look good. Kind of disappointing, as it was first proper run after break in.

Since I need to do some major work on it anyway I might as well swap it out with some better quality aftermarket stuff.

Recommendations or other alternatives?

Links highly appreciated.

Thanks.

i've been bashing with this this for 2 months now and can't see any wear. 47T as original.

Thanks, will try that. Did you upgrade your clutch bell too? Seems mine is gone as well...

Any other mods to recommend while at it?

Sure it's 14 and not 17?

A992 is labeled 17.

Btw, got a photo of how the Throttle Return Spring is attached? Can't find the specs in the manual.
Sorry! Never realised that. Always been running 14T, thats how i got the car and thought it was stock. I usually run offroad, so don't need high speeds. Basically comes down to what you want: offroad, popping wheelies or top speeds. The higher the tooths, the higher the topspeed. I use a aliexpress throttle return spring because i lost the original🙂

It fits the same way tho:16832320295594956446853166157261.jpglong side to HSN and short side here:⬇️⬇️16832322164245095267106686905752.jpgedit: like guinnessdublin said, plastic spur is also completely fine as long as the mesh is correct. In my other savage I'm actually running a plastic gear

Yeah, I now understand how I blew up the cluch and spur gear...
In case I'm sounding a bit too professional: I've bought my first savage just around half a year ago. "Luckily" i did break some parts, and just out of curiosity, I literally disassembled every piece of the rc. But fun fact: in my first run, i messed up the gear mesh and the original plastic spur👍

Again, many thanks for info and pics! Anything else I should upgrade while at it?

Cool. Anything else I should look out for?

I'd stock up on these washers, they're for shimming the clutchbell, so you get almost no play. 5x10x0.1mm is the link, but i'd also recommend some 5x10x0.3 shims because otherwise you'll have tons of shims coming out every disassembly:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0uYOUY
(inner diameter X outer diameter X thickness)

Maybe this seems obvious, but I started pretty late using this:

Use threadlock on every screw that goes into metal. Definetely use it on places where you expect lots of vibrations e.g. motor mount, screw that goes into crank and holds clutchbell and grubscrews . Blue threadlock is the best option, atleast it won't be hard removing the screw.
(Red is more permanent)

OWB ("upgraded" version preferably)

This is just a link for a slipper pad, in case you need a new one when assembling the new spur (i ruined one🤦)

The exhaust spring. Not much to tell, it just breaks sometimes🤷🏻‍♂️

It is a little longer than the original, but still does it's job

Just a see-through fuel line:

3x5mm will fit in nitro's and probably most gas rc's.

For general use, this oil is just a lot cheaper than the oil from hobby stores:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtFiMKk
60ml from my local hobby shop costs €7🤔

I have tried 2 types of aliExpress glowplugs: "o.s. 8" and "T2". The os8 did actually work on 25% nitro, but it's too short for the savage, so I don't recommend. I have tried the T2 recently too on 25% nitro. Works fine, but i've only tested it 2 tanks in a smallblock nitro. Some glowplugs go bad at the 4th tank😬 so not sure if you should try this one, but i'll give the link anyways:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mrPg0Ni

There's probably more but I can't come up with anything else right now👍
Much people will have a lot to say about aliExpress, but if you would buy all those things from your hobby shop, you'd end up 3 or 4 times as expensive. I have bought and tried everything from those links.

Thanks for keeping the forum alive, especially the nitro segment💪

Thanks. What about these glow plugs? https://www.ebay.com/itm/304844366060

And what about a bottom skit plate? Pull starter?

One of the wheel nuts fell off on first run at the beach. Amazingly I managed to find it. I can see wheel nuts coming off is a common issue mentioned several places. Is treadlock sufficient or should I swap them out?

Well, I had a beefed up 1/10 electric before, upgraded everything to the top quaily, but nitro is so so much more fun in my opinion 🥳

What wheel nuts are you using, I have never had one come off even when I raced at weekend?

Never used those glow plugs. I think they will be too hot for the mixture I'm usually running: 20-25% nitro (16-25% is recommended by HPI). I have tried this pullstarter recently:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLbhVqo
From my experience: the rope broke on around the 15th pull on a .32 force engine. So maybe it might work on a .28, I will be testing soon. I also tried the HPI original 3-screw pullstarter, and so far it works pretty well in a f4.6 in a truggy. That's all my pullstarter experience👍
The rotostart system works just fine, but it has not enough power for a .32 force engine.
Skid plates aren't actually necessary as the car doesn't touch the ground when you apply all force on it. Sorry if I understood that wrong, maybe meant something like this:Screenshot_20230506_222430_Google.jpgyou can buy the ready version. I just bought a mousemat, drilled the holes and boom (more of a mud protection, not really to protect the car). Did this on both my savages.
I only had my wheel (nut) come out once when I was driving. Since then, I just screwed it harder in. Never had to use any loctite there🤷🏻‍♂️
(i also use the basic wheel nuts)
I like running RC's offroad, but can't imagine to clean it after bashing it in sand😂
my first hobby grade RC was a traxxas maxx. It took lots, lots of abuse without cleaning! It survived this for 2 years atleast. It still works tho, but I never actually upgraded it. Really agree that nitro's are a lot more fun to work on! A 40mph nitro feels like 2 times more exciting than a 50mph electric😎

Any more glow plug updates?

Hello sorry for the late reply. Untill now I am statisfied of the "T2" glowplugs and haven't actually bought the others. Sadly haven't had the time recently to run the nitro's😒.

Link for T2 glowplugs (example, standard it selects the T1 version which might be fine too but my experience is from the T2)

Thanks. Do these last a good amount of time? How many tanks do you have through it?
