I was having a conversation with a mate today while out having a bash.
He was saying that fuel tank foam can stop the mid tank lean problem because the mid tank lean was caused by the fuel being sloshing around creating more air in the fuel.

Now I am not sure how this relates to r/c cars but it has been used in motocross and supercross for some time now. I have heard with success but its more to create stability in the bikes.

The effect of these systems is either to eliminate the oxygen completely or to reduce it to a negligible level so Without sufficient oxygen in the tank the fuel cannot ignite and explosions cannot occur.
but in rc cars i don't know if it will work like it do on aircrafts and motocross .
first on the rc nitro cars the fule reaches the carb. from the fuel tank by the pressuer from the exhaust so you need air and smok to enter the tank to make some pressur and push the fule to the carb. try to open the fuel tank of your car while it's running if you do opening it the car will stall and starts to turn of its engine that because the pressur is no more in the tank so the fuel cant reach the carb.
i think that these foam things will make the pressuer less than it shoud be I'm not sure but try and tell us what happned

never tried it or heard of it being used, but id be real interested to see if it works. you gonna give it a try? if you do, then be sure to post back
 
MTL is a preasure drop in the tank. Its not caused by the sloshing. The foam may take up volume and help the issue. May also make a bigger one. Only one way to find out!
 
Think of it this way...You have a fixed pressure from the exhaust (I know it varys, but this isn't the point here) and it acts on top of the fuel in the tank to 'push' it to the carb...Now, when you get to mid-tank (below the shelf) there is less surface area to 'push' on so the fuel line pressure is reduced...I know it's been used in bikes for a while FiM regs and all, and as farmawi has pointed out, it's purpose is to firstly eliminate the 'air space' where oxygen and fuel fumes can ignite in the case of a crash or a spark, and secondly to stop the fuel sloshing about (helps keep the bikes more balenced and stops there being no fuel to pick-up at extreme lean angles.

Be intersting to hear how you get on, but I don't think it will do anything, in fact I'd suggest that it may even lean it out even more, due to the restriction...Let us know how you get on if you decide to have a play bud.

IMHO, Mid-Tank the Sav and it'll sort it (unless you use a stock tank...)
