Hey everybody,
I'm in need of your expertise. I have a savage x and have ran about 2 gallons of fuel through it. I recently switched fuel from using O'donnell RTR 20to O'donnell racing 25. I am burning through glow plugs (OS8). I took the head off the engine and there is no pitting and I seem to have great compression. All I could come up with is a possible air leak in the engine, so I sealed around the carb. I took it out tonight and it still runs like @#$@. It stalls out but doesn't completely die, then goes good, then stalls out again. Slipper is also fine. I can't seem to tune it at all. I'm new to this site and have found great info, so I'm hoping somebody gives me a shout. Thank you

Thanks for the replies. I live in Montana where it's about 15 degrees, so would you suggest HPI R3 or a OS R5?

Welcome to hpisf Montana.

if your running in temps that cold , did you richen your fuel/air mixture? just askin cuz cold air is more dense than warm air which will automatically lean out your tune.

Thanks for the welcomes,
I reset the HSN (have never touched the LSN or idle) and started over, and can't even find a range where it won't sputter. Could I also be leaking air around the exhaust manifold and/or HSN. I'm definitely trying a colder plug. Thanks ALL!

OK you said sputter and stalls out but does not die. IF you are hitting the throttle and the mill goes _= wa wa wawa awa=- its lean. if it just bogs its rich. B4 you blame the mill check the Tank oring and lines for leaks. Then Id think the mill has a air leak. if you are at a rich setting with the needle and its doing that lean sound.

i might be wrong but i think the R3 is a cold plug, which means you would be needing a hotter plug if its chilly were u are.. i run the R4 which is a med cold plug in the summer months just to give u a idea!!!

r5 is a cold racing plug wich is designed to be use with higer nitro content also allows way leaner needle settings

YEAHHHHHHHHHH!
Due to all the great info I received from you guys, I finally got it. I was starting it with the Roto and just happened to pinch the fuel line and noticed fuel shooting out of this pin-sized hole. Replaced the line, and plug and she runs like the wind! Thanks again!!!!!
