Hello i was wondering how much of effect it would have on a engine having a air leak were the roto start back plate connects to the engine?
 
No, I ran mine with the rotostart hanging on by one screw. It's not part of the compression chamber. Plus a roto is not required at all for the motor to run.

After thinking about it, are you talking about the plate that the OWB screws into?

yea i found another back plate i had hanging around in my spare parts put it on just now and no leakinging! don't know if it matters or not but i fell better not haveing any leaks!! thanks for you're help!!!!!!!!
 
cool thanks for the info. i found also that my buku pipe end cap had a gap so there was no compression there as well no wonder it ran crapy!!!!!!!!!
