Morning,

Just a couple of queries for this section...

How long should it take to start a Savage?
I've got a rotostart on the Savage X, and the rotostart says to only use it for 5 seconds at a time. So yesterday, it took about 8 attempts (4-5 seconds at a time) to start the thing. It was quite cold (Outside temp of 4 degrees C) and was also raining slightly, but it started in the end. Is this the norm?

Also, how long should I be priming it (finger over the exhaust) for, before trying to start it? I know you have to wait for the bubbles to disappear, but how long should this take?

I've got a large sandpit local to me. After I've been driving the beast around it, is it better to let it dry and brush off the sand, or run over all of it (apart from the electrics) with a low pressure hose?

Last one now, I promise...

I was thinking it'd be good to get one of the small cans of compressed air to blow over the car when I had finished with it for the day. Is this a good idea, or will it just force things into the bearings etc?

You should prime your engine by blowing in the tube from the exhaust pipe, until it reaches the carb. If it's that cold I would recommend heating the block first, then try and start it. They can be tempermental when it's cold out. A little heat wll go a long way, trust me.

don't know how much the dirt/sand the compressed air will blast off, i use the spray cleaner that i use to clean my paslode cordless nailers $6.00/can & safe for electronics & plastics. haven't hurt a bearing yet bro..

I agree with purenitro, when the temps drop like that no matter what the age of a motor..when out even just sitting it on the floor of your vechicle with the floor heater on for a few minutes is enough to get them to start in cooler weather. Also I usally blow in the fuel line coming from the mufflar also just till i see fuel entering the carb..then stick your glow ingnitor on and let it sit there for a few secs then try to start it...it should start right away for you.

A. I Blow prime with the line off the carb. I don't fill my carb at all.

A. I have no problems taking the hose to mine... People wince at the track when I do it..... its funny! I always Blow it off with a compressor and hit all alloys with a shot of WD40 or the like to prevent rust. Never harmed a thing. I will hit my servos too(lightly). Just not the RX and Batt..

A. Like I said I use a compressor. But its clean before I blow it down..

Now all I've got to do is find a tap on the sandpit and I'm sorted!:duh:

The only other issue I've got is that the daylight hours are getting shorter and by the time I get home, it's too dark! Gutted!

you'll have to install some of those led head lights on your savage!!! lol apparently if you get the right ones there really bright!!!!
